Job summary Are you a Band 5 or 6 Paediatric Nurse looking for a new and exciting challenge?
Why not join our friendly team in the Children's Emergency Department (ChED).We care for children and young people with a variety of presentations from respiratory distress to appendicitis and work closely with our colleagues in the Children's Assessment Unit and the inpatient paediatric ward to ensure our patients get the best care.
The Children's Emergency Department has 14 beds, including side rooms and an enhanced care bay and resuscitation bay and operates 24 hours a day around the year.
We care for children who are acutely unwell, and our aim is to assess and plan effective care interventions to support their recovery.We cross work between departments when necessary to improve our skills and form part of the larger Jenny Lind Children's Hospital team.
Main duties of the job As a band 6 you will be coordinating shifts and ensuring that patient care is of the highest standard and the clinical environment is welcoming and meets all set targets for cleanliness and safety.
You will be responsible for a small team of staff, managing their appraisals and mandatory training.
You will also be involved in teaching on our comprehensive teaching program which is being established by our team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners.You will be working in a team of Nurses, Doctors, Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioners, Healthcare Assistants and Play Specialists to provide high quality care for our patients.Training opportunities for the ChED team include: triage skills, advanced life support, paediatric HDU at level 1 and 2, ECG's, venipuncture and cannulation, blood gases, wound care, among others.

In the absence of a senior nurse ensuring adequate staff cover on a daily basis.To support bereaved relatives in the department and junior staff whilst they are undertaking this role.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered Paediatric Nurse with significant post registration experience in ED or Critical Care area One of the following: EPALS / APLS Experience Essential Significant paediatric experience in ED nursing or Critical Care.
