Role Summary: To assist in organising, directing and co-coordinating the activities of the Fleet, employed drivers, agency drivers and the resources necessary for the safe, efficient and economic movement of freight to and from airlines and agents in the Exeter area. This role will require occasional shifts as a relief Van Driver travelling across the country delivering goods and services to our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities: Answering inbound telephone calls quickly and efficiently. Receiving telephone and faxed instructions from clients and recording relevant details accurately on the Company's data management system. Maintaining customer service levels at the highest standard by ensuring a rapid response to their requirements. Dealing with telephone inquiries from Company and Independent Service Providers quickly and efficiently. Identifying needs and establishing client requirements. Identifying opportunities to improve the service and reporting these to Depot Manager. Planning optimum utilisation of Independent Service Providers. Planning optimum utilisation of all Company owned vehicles. Drive vehicle from depot to loading/unloading point. Assist with loading/unloading and ensure that load is evenly distributed and safely secured. Drive vehicle to destination in accordance with schedule. Maintain records of journey times, mileage and hours worked. Undertake minor repairs and notify Depot Supervisor/Manager of any mechanical faults. Complete all deliveries within time restrictions. Develop positive relationships with colleagues and team members and support the Depot Manager and Depot Supervisor in attaining their goals. Establish and maintain the trust and support of colleagues, Managers and teams. Obtain and process information to enable appropriate decisions to be made. Ensure accurate storage and prompt retrieval of information. Ensure individuals, teams, colleagues, managers and clients are advised of appropriate information. Promote good working practices and procedures with particular reference to the Company's BSI/ISO standards. Act responsibly towards colleagues and team members in relation to regulations and requirements in respect of Health and Safety and Aviation Security. Experience & Qualifications: At least 2 years' solid working experience in Transport Operations. Can carry out department inductions. Level D Aviation Security. Hazardous Awareness. Able to read and understand instructions, short correspondence and memos. Able to write simple reports and complete paperwork pertaining to the position. Able to communicate effectively in both one-to-one and small group settings with colleagues, customers and employees. Ensuring good verbal and written dialogue with internal and external contacts/users. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work under pressure in a busy fast-paced environment. Team player as well as able to work independently. Hard-working, flexible. Aviation Security knowledge desirable. Usual working hours Monday - Friday 5:45am - 3:45pm including a 1-hour unpaid break, 45 hours a week.
