Reports To: Senior Operations Manager Direct Reports: Site & Project Managers – Operationally, Nuclear team functionally Location: Multiple Sites across the UK - ( Hunterston A, Chapel Cross, Wylfa, Trawsfynydd, Berkeley, Oldbury, Hinkley Point A, Winfrith, Harwell, Dungeness A, Sizewell A, Bradwell) Role Overview: As an Operations Manager, you will be a senior member of the Nuclear management team responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient day-to-day delivery of operational activities across the NRS portfolio.
The role involves leading and managing teams, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
You will be expected to implement Nuclear professionalism and WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators) standards, ensuring operations meet both Altrad and client requirements.
This position requires a strategic thinker with strong commercial and operational acumen, capable of driving continuous improvement and excellence delivered (ED) initiatives across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership & Safety: - Lead operational activities across 12 NRS sites, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with Nuclear, WANO, CDM (Construction, Design and Management), and relevant standards.
- Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring all work is performed in line with HSEQW (Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Wellbeing) standards.
- Oversee site operations, ensuring minimal environmental impact and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Customer Satisfaction & Relationship Management: - Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring client needs are met or exceeded.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients across multiple sites, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and alignment with project expectations.
Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement: - Deploy Continuous Improvement (CI) tools to optimise operational processes and drive improvements across the portfolio.
- Lead initiatives to improve productivity and operational excellence through innovative solutions, focusing on delivering cost-effective outcomes.
People Management & Development: - Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to site and project managers, fostering a culture of ownership and high performance.
- Manage HR aspects such as timekeeping, discipline, absence management, and employee development to ensure operational efficiency.
- Conduct quarterly performance reviews and lead performance management to ensure alignment with business objectives.
Compliance & Commercial Oversight: - Ensure adherence to client and Altrad compliance standards, including WANO, regulatory requirements, and commercial terms.
- Manage commercial activities, including cost control, contract management, CEMAR actions, and applications for payment.
- Collaborate with the commercial team to monitor records and drive contract performance improvements.
Project Management & Resource Allocation: - Work closely with the Senior Operations Manager and clients to manage programmes of work, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Effectively manage labour resources across multiple sites, ensuring qualified and experienced personnel are mobilised as needed.
- Support the winning work process by providing proposal information and ensuring operational input aligns with business growth objectives.
Incident Management & Root Cause Analysis: - Lead investigations and root cause analysis for operational incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure a "Fair and Just Culture" is maintained, and lessons learned are shared across the business.
Excellence Delivered (ED) & Programme Implementation: - Champion the implementation of Excellence Delivered (ED) and Continuous Improvement (CI) programmes, driving consistent, high-quality delivery across all sites.
- Maintain strong operational oversight to ensure compliance and programme adherence across the business unit.
Key Skills & Qualifications: - In-depth understanding of Nuclear professionalism and WANO standards.
- Demonstrable experience in multi-disciplinary project management (e.g., access and scaffolding, insulation, painting, civil works, asbestos removal, nuclear decommissioning).
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience in contracts, valuations, and sub-contract management.
- Familiarity with CDM regulations (2015) and safety management systems in industrial environments.
- Experience applying Continuous Improvement (CI) and performance management tools.

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Commercially oriented with a focus on client satisfaction and delivering business value.
- Ability to drive operational excellence and maintain a high-performance culture.
Additional Requirements: - Full driving licence and willingness to travel frequently, sometimes at short notice.
- Ability to wear respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and successfully complete a face fit test.
- IT literate with the ability to manage fleet-wide systems and processes.
Key Relationships: - Internal: Business Unit Directors, Senior Operations Managers, Functional Heads, Site and Project Managers - External: Clients, Suppliers, JV Partners, Regulators This role is ideal for a dynamic and experienced operations leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, ensuring operational excellence while balancing the needs of clients and the business.
