Job summary Oncology Lead Nurse Department: Cancer Services & Haematology Band 8A Hours: per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Macmillan supported position as an experienced senior nurse, with an Oncology / Chemotherapy background, to join the Cancer Services team.
You will provide clinical leadership and expertise in Oncology by providing information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families, and carers.
You will act as an expert resource, assess, contribute, and deliver education to patients/carers, medical, nursing, AHP and social care colleagues and students, including primary and community care teams.
The ideal candidate will have experience as an Oncology CNS/ANP with chemotherapy experience as well as evidence of enhanced clinical practice and ability to carry out nurse lead clinics supporting immunotherapy pathways and working to develop a Nurse led PICC service.
The post holder will participate in the co-ordination of oncological patient care to ensure continuity throughout the patient's care pathway.
They will be pivotal in review and development of the service, and to reflect the needs of the patient group, will liaise closely with the health care teams of inpatient wards, outpatient department and primary care, including Consultant Physicians and GP's.
Provisional interview Main duties of the job The post holder will be a Senior member of the Oncology team with specific responsibility to work alongside the Oncology Consultants supporting the service development and a focus on immunotherapy pathways.
They will work in a leadership capacity role, leading and developing nursing practice for patients and colleagues within the Oncology department.
The role has line management responsibilities for the Acute Oncology CNS team and the post holder will be expected to manage performance, education and development alongside service improvements to meet the demands of the service.
This rapidly expanding modern and busy service offers many training opportunities for their staff, recent developments have led to the opening of our cancer centre in February 2020 and the upcoming opening of the Radiotherapy centre in 2024 linked to Oxford University Hospital.
This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Wellbeing and Support Centre.
We firmly believe in holistic care, with a newly established wellbeing team to enhance the recovery package for patients living with and beyond cancer.
We have Citizen Advice Bureau onsite and offer a wide range of carers and patient support groups.

Job description Job responsibilities The post holder is identified as a clinical expert and is required to have a high clinical profile ensuring the provision of effective and efficient care.
At this level the post holders expected to work as both a leader and highly skilled practitioner, have expert knowledge and to continue to develop their practice, and the service.
The primary focus of the role is to work as an enhanced and often autonomous practitioner providing patient centred clinical care in including Oncology immunotherapy clinics, Oncology follow up clinics, treatment reviews, treatment go ahead and symptom control.
The post holder will also oversee the Acute Oncology team and management support.
To provide an ongoing review service for the local population receiving immunotherapy treatments and oncology reviews.
To independently break bad news/give feedback of results to the patient while supporting them and their family/carers.
To use clinical skills such as history taking, physical assessment and non-medical prescribing within clinical competence.
The post is intended to provide a consistency of care to ensure timely follow up for the individual as recommended by local protocol and NICE guidelines.
The post holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.
The post holder will be expected to work at an enhanced clinical level within their level of competence and to work flexibly as a leader of a wider CNS team.
To use well developed time management and organization skills.
The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload/caseload and work across the region.
The post holder must work professionally across organisational, agency and system boundaries to improve services and develop practice.
They will participate in networks, locally, regionally and nationally.
The postholder will assess and manage risk while proactively challenge others about risk.
