About us The General Wine Company is an independent, family-run wine and spirits merchant based in Liphook, Hampshire.
Founded in 1982, we specialise in sourcing an extensive portfolio of exceptional wines from selected producers worldwide.
With an absolute focus and consistency on quality and value, we have built an enviable reputation with our trade customers and private consumers alike.

We are a team of 20 with our head office operations in Liphook.
We provide a personal service to our on-trade customers throughout the Home Counties and central London.
In addition, we have two highly successful retail shops and an online offering for our private clients.

The role We are seeking a dynamic On-Trade Sales Manager to join our team.
As an On-Trade Sales Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our trade business.
This is a rewarding role for an experienced professional from the wine trade:
Exploiting new opportunities: You will be adept at proactively seeking new business opportunities and expanding our client base.
Cultivating client relationships: Building and nurturing strong relationships with key decision-makers in the hospitality industry will be your forté, including restauranteurs, sommeliers, and bar managers.
Developing wine lists: In partnership with individual clients, you will develop commercial wine lists that reflect each client's customer preferences and unique identity.
Customer training: You will deliver educational and passionate wine training sessions to equip hospitality staff with knowledge, skills and motivation to elevate their customer experience.
Driving revenue and returns: By implementing innovative and deliberate sales strategies, you will maximise revenue and commercial returns for the business and further develop our market share and reputation.
What we're looking for As a key team member, we are looking for someone who will fit into our culture and play a leading role in the business.
We are specifically looking for someone with the following:
Proven sales acumen: You must demonstrate a strong track record in on-trade sales and account management within the wine industry.
Deep wine knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of wine, preferably to at least WSET Level 3.
Strong interpersonal skills: A talent for building rapport, fostering trust, and influencing key stakeholders.
Exceptional communication skills: The ability to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively verbally and in writing.
Results-oriented mindset: A drive to achieve targets and consistently exceed expectations.
A passion for the hospitality industry: A genuine enthusiasm for the world of food, wine and hospitality.
