Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an OccupationalTherapist to join our Therapy Team.
Therole will fully engage all the skills of Occupational therapy both the mentalhealth and physical health skills.

Main duties of the job Todeliver an effective, evidence based occupational therapy (OT) service toadults and older people diagnosed with cognitive impairment (includingdementia) or other mental health problems, in order to maximise independenceand the safe management of their mental health difficulties, and also addressany physical needs as appropriate in the mental health setting.
To beresponsible for assessment, development, implementing and evaluating OT plansusing a person centred approach in both community and acute settings.
To beinvolved in liaising and effectively communicating with all relevant parties,including GP's and carers.
To promote innovative and creative ways of working withservice users/carers with complex mentalhealth needs.
To effectively manage the resources available to achieve the bestpossible care and outcomes for service users.

Instigate, develop and maintain relationships with serviceusers and/or carers, and support staff, to facilitate accurate assessment anddelivery of care.

To act as lead professional when indicated, forspecialist assessment where the main intervention is occupational therapy.To promote the role of OT by feedingback in meetings, presentations and feedback of OT clinical activities.
Thecandidate will have or be engaged in developing specialist knowledge andtraining, gained through formal training.
Have skills and experience indeveloping and facilitating training to staff and students.
To provide advice,training and support to other agencies around issues relating to mental health,and if indicated physical health needs .
Maintain CPD port folio to demonstratelifelong learning and professional competence.
The candidate will be able tomake decisions about the range of options for OT interventions and care plansbased on clinical judgement of a service users need.
To conduct comprehensiveOT assessments of both service users and carers in line with team operationalpolicies.
Analyse service users occupational performance areas and adaptinterventions as required in order to maximise and maintain service usersskills and function.
To formulate detailed assessments to inform thedecision-making regarding service users ongoing needs.
To plan and coordinateOT care packages for both individuals and groups according to their identifiedoccupational needs.
To coordinate transfer of referral of clients to otherteams or services where required.
To priorities, plan and coordinate ownworkload and activities in line with the changing needs of the team andservice.
This includes planning and monitoring service user occupational needsand presentation, conducting assessments, ensuring patient records are up to dateand supporting colleagues on a daily basis.
To participate in caseloadmanagement and ensure relevant information is available for this to take place.To be trained in RESPECT, our corporate de-escalation philosophy, andundertake regular updates.
To undertake occupational therapy assessments for serviceusers using standardised and non standardised OT assessment tools, toidentify and address occupational performance and skill deficits.
To assess andreview service users clinical risk management plan.
To collaborate withservice users/carers to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan.
Toplan and implement individual and/or group interventions in collaboration withservice user, design graded activity and person centred principles to achievetherapeutic goals.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Occupational Therapy (BSc or MSc) qualification Desirable Relevant training; related to mental health and/or Occupational Therapy Experience Essential Experience working with people with a mental health conditions either in a paid or voluntary capacity To have an understanding of the role of the Occupational Therapist within a mental health setting Experience of working within a team To be qualified as an Occupational Therapist and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Desirable Experience working within Older People's Mental Health services, inpatient or community 1 year experience of working as a qualified Occupational Therapist Skills & Attributes Essential Full driving licence and daily use of car Able to organise and prioritise own workload Skills in Information Technology Able to work independently and use own initiative Good written and verbal communication skills Ability to co-ordinate and run group sessions Ability to negotiate work priorities Desirable Ability to involve Service Users and carers actively in planning and evaluating their Therapy plan.
