Job summary Ward 19 and 21 are looking for an enthusiastic person, who is ready for a challenge on our busy orthopaedic unit.
This person must be willing to look after the nutrition of our 22 patients on ward 19 and 20 patients on ward 21, it will be a rotational post between both areas .
The successful candidate will be able to monitor and record weights, to assist and encourage patients to take prescribed snacks and supplements and to spend time with our nutritional team.
The right person must be able to take and document observations, blood sugars and nutritional scores on each patient.
They must be trained in moving and handling and able to complete any training required for this job role.
Main duties of the job The right person must be able to work well within the team, to look after the patients dietary requirements, complete food diaries and fluids balances.
They must be able to complete weights on admission and weekly.
The right candidate will need to be able to take blood sugars and observations and liaise with other health professionals including the Nutritional Nurses daily and weekly .
They must be a patients advocate and be able to vocalise and escalate when a patient is not taking adequate diet and fluids to the nurse in charge.
They must display a knowledge of different types of diets and order these accordingly.
This person must be kind and patient and be able to liaise with family members/friends, they must be confident and phone relatives to gain the relevant information needed to aid dietary intake and be able to liaise with the kitchens and use the ordering system for menu collection daily.
