Nursery Nurses have a key role in developing confidence in new parents in the early transition period, supporting them to care for both well babies and those requiring additional observation.
You will play a vital part in driving us forwards and improving the lives of families across Sussex.

This is a shift working role, across a 24/7 service including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Posts are currently available at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton) and St Richards Hospital (Chichester).
Main duties of the job Record basic observation for babies such as temperature, pulse and respiration as required.
Report any change in the condition of the parent and baby to the registered midwife and paediatrician.
Care of baby undergoing phototherapy bilibeds.
Care of cold babies and monitoring temperature whilst under overhead radiant heater or hot cot.
Liaise with multidisciplinary colleagues where appropriate child protection Document clinical care in electronic patient records maintaining an accurate and legible record in accordance with Trust Policies and Guidelines.
In respect of child protection cases, document fully in the birthing parent's notes the parenting skills and social interaction observed between parents and baby.
Respect and maintain the client's right to confidentiality.
Listen to and partake in hand over at the beginning of the shift and handover to your peers at the end of the shift.
Undertake the collection of specimens such as blood by heel prick and urine samples and swabs.
Ensure the nursery and feeding room is clean and stocked and equipped to a safe and high standard.
Provide emotional support to new parents on a daily basis.
On occasion provide care for seriously/terminally ill babies.
Support parents whose baby is undergoing invasive treatment, such as blood tests, lumbar puncture.
Reinforce professional advice through supporting and encouraging the parents in parenting skills in the first 10 days of baby's life.

Candidate Information Pack: Job description Job responsibilities a) General Baby Care On a daily basis provide care for the babies including feeding, nappy changing, eye care, Cord Clamp removal.
Perform daily physical checks of babies and document findings/care into the digital baby care record.
Report any concerns to the midwife in charge.
b) Transitional/Clinical Baby Care Record basic observation such as temperature, pulse and respiration as required.
Closely monitor and care of babies on Meconium observations including temperature, pulse and respiration.
Reporting any changes to doctor/midwife.
Take blood via heel prick to perform blood sugar monitoring and report results.
Care of baby undergoing phototherapy bilibeds.
Care of cold babies and monitoring temperature whilst under overhead radiant heater or hot cot.
Using of a SATS monitor.
Undertake the collection of specimens such as blood by heel prick and urine samples and swabs.
Removal of venflons.
Care of babies with special needs congenital abnormalities such as babies with a cleft palate needing specialist feeding and babies undergoing drug withdrawal.
Use of bilicheck system for SBR levels following training.
Transporting babies to TMBU (Neonatal Unit) for drug therapy and for scans and x-rays.
Receiving babies from TMBU, check name bands, receive clinical information of the babys condition.
Assist in the administration of baby medication following the appropriate training.
Will recognise a collapsed state in a baby and initiate resuscitation according to Trust Policies and guidelines.
On assessing babies, be able to recognise any deviation from normal condition and report to doctor or midwife.
c) Feeding Support mothers and birthing parents with both breast and artificial feeding.
Give advice on expressing breast milk.
Teach birthing parents to hand express and to use a breast pump.
Feed babies by cup or syringe when appropriate.
Make up formula feeds on a daily basis.
Check expiry date on milk.
Check the stored expressed milk stored on the ward Liaise with infant feeding co-ordinator with breast/ chest feeding problems.
Person Specification Essential Essential GCSE Maths and English at Grade C and above (or equivalent) Diploma in Child Care Education (or equivalent) Experience of working with children and families Desirable NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Experience of working with babies in a clinical setting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Essential Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
