Job summary THIS POST IS A SECONDMENT UNTIL 31 MARCH 2026 DUE TO FUNDING Strategic Clinical Networks are an essential national vehicle for joint working between key stakeholders including NHS Wales, Welsh Government and the third sector to improve the outcomes and experience for the population of Wales.
Integral to this is the need for continuous improvement and transformational change across a range of our services and approaches and the role of the Strategic Clinical Network is to support this at national, regional and local levels.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to support the national delivery of the National Strategic Clinical Network for Gastrointestinal Conditions.
The National IBD Nurse Lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) will be expected: To provide professional and strategic leadership to the Network within their own area of expertise.
To provide strategic and clinical guidance and advice to the Network and other associated Networks on the role and direction of the IBD Implementation Network.
To communicate the vision around future service provision of IBD in a way which motivates the clinical community based on improving outcomes within a value-based context from national policy through to local delivery level.
To inspire colleagues to innovate and problem solve acting in the best interests of the population and take collective responsibility for decision making.
Main duties of the job To provide clinical leadership to, and on behalf of, the IBD Implementation Network To foster a culture of multi-professional engagement in the improvement of care across integrated pathways for patients with IBD Conditions.
This will include ensuring IBD nursing colleagues are fully committed to the delivery of ambitious programmes of pathway redesign and quality improvement.
To ensure involvement, influence and distributed leadership is promoted and available across the care system.
To maintain credibility with all key players within the IBD community, fostering a culture of collaboration for the delivery of equitable, high quality care across all sectors.
At times this will include acting as an 'honest broker' reconciling conflicting views and interests.
To understand, communicate and support the implementation of clinical policy relating to the National Strategic Clinical Network for Gastrointestinal Conditions and IBD Implementation Network(including Quality Statement, NICE Quality Standards and Outcome Strategies).
To promote a culture of innovation, developing and maturing strong partnerships across the IBD landscape.

This should take into account workforce challenges and the impact and opportunities of innovation and different ways of working.
The post sits within the National Strategic Clinical Network for Gastrointestinal Conditions and NHS Wales Executive which supports and advises Health Boards and Welsh Government in Wales.
Whilst the main responsibilities will be to the new National Strategic Clinical Network for Gastrointestinal Conditions, the post holder will be required to work flexibly to respond to the business needs of the supporting clinical reference groups and workstreams consistent to those described in this job description.
The post holder will work within the National Strategic Clinical Network for Gastrointestinal Conditions as part of the IBD Implementation Network, alongside the IBD Clinical Lead, Network Manager and core team to develop models of care closer to home, ensuring pathways are implemented to deliver a consistent integrated delivery of care at the point of need.
This will also require the postholder to work across other Networks to ensure a whole system approach is met, reducing potential for silo working.

Evidence of relevant Continuing Professional Development.
Registered with the relevant professional body.
Desirable Academic publications/ Presentations.
Higher Degree.
Demonstrate involvement in and enthusiasm for developing capability for improvement and system leadership.
Experience Essential Substantial IBD Nurse experience.
Expert practitioner within their own field.
Extensive experience in the care and management of patients with IBD.
Previous formal experience of leadership within an NHS organisation.
Experience of leading, managing and implementing change.
Experience in audit, research and training.
Desirable Experience of working with senior management in affecting the development of strategy.
Experience of peer review in a clinical setting.
Knowledge Essential Knowledge of NHS Executive, WG and NHS Wales policy context.
Knowledge of national objectives for IBD, Quality Statement and any previous Delivery Plans and the National Clinical Plans.
