Non-Executive Director – Bath and Remote This is a great opportunity to join Bath Building Society's Board of Directors.
The Non-Executive Director (NED) plays a vital role in providing independent oversight, challenge, and strategic input to support Bath Building Society's mission and growth objectives.
The Society is recruiting for a new NED, who has deep expertise in customer-focussed and commercial strategy development and execution, including distribution and marketing.
The required time commitment is approximately 3-4 days per month.
Located on Queen Square in the centre of the beautiful city of Bath, the Society has been serving the city and supporting our local community since 1904.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Oversight and Challenge of the executive's running of the Society.
Contribute to the development, oversight, and review of Bath Building Society's business strategy.
Challenge executive management on strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with the Society's goals and regulatory requirements.
Provide a balanced, objective perspective on strategy formulation, risk management, and potential opportunities for growth.
Monitor the performance of the executive team in achieving business targets.
Review and challenge management reports on performance metrics, ensuring transparent, accurate, and timely reporting.
As part of the Board, oversee the integrity of Bath Building Society's financial reporting.
Evaluate and challenge the effectiveness of financial controls and risk management frameworks, ensuring they remain robust and adaptable to industry and market changes.
Monitor and review the Society's risk appetite and management approach to ensure resilience, regulatory compliance, and alignment with long-term strategic objectives.
Uphold high standards of governance, ethical conduct, and compliance within Bath Building Society.
Provide independent views on Board resources, appointments, and succession planning.
Support a culture of accountability, transparency, and high performance across all areas of the business.
Board and Committee Participation Attend and actively participate in Board and relevant Committee meetings, bringing expertise in financial products.
Support collective decision-making by contributing insights, offering constructive challenge, and ensuring robust debate on key issues.
Work collaboratively with fellow Board members and senior executives to develop and refine the Society's approach to product innovation, customer engagement, and market positioning.
Skills and Experience Substantial experience in financial services.
Deep understanding of member needs, with a customer-first approach that aligns commercial strategies with providing value to members.
Knowledge of pricing strategies, market analysis, and competitive positioning.
Understanding of emerging trends in marketing and distribution, such as personalisation, automation, and omnichannel integration Proven track record of strategic leadership, ideally with experience in board-level roles.
Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks relevant to financial institutions in the UK.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage constructively and collaboratively with Board members and senior management.
