Position: Naval Architect / Offshore Design Engineer Department: Engineering Reporting to: Director Qualification: Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Naval Architecture or Engineering Location: UK – Remote (office working as required) Salary: Competitive Scope of position: • Engineer Level member of the engineering team, involving close working with all functions of the company.
• Provide support to the company's technology development roadmap.
• It is critical that the individual assuming the role is both versatile and a true team-player, with an ability to pre-empt and support a broad range of tasks.
• Flexibility in the role is a key requirement, particularly when working to tight deadlines.
Main Duties & Responsibilities • Proactively work with and support the engineering leadership.
• Ensure rigour in the design approach, on the integrity and quality of the design concepts and the delivery of detailed designs of the selected concepts.
• Principally responsible for supporting delivery of: o Numerical Analysis of offshore floating systems, o Validation of numerical modelling through prototype testing, o Mooring design including novel component specification to DNV standards, o Analysis of data obtained during R&D Test Campaigns, and o Engineering consultancy activities.
• All analysis to be undertaken using combination of industry dynamic multi-physics standard software, internal post-processing tools, and manual calculations.
• Creating clear and concise technical reports for verification and dissemination.
• Technical and project management support on company projects.
• Ensure that delivery of design output meets or exceeds quality, cost and time drivers.
• Proactively work with and support procurement and the manufacturing activities as end users of the designs: o Prepare component specifications and liaise with suppliers on procurement.
o Develop method statements with the manufacturing and operations partners.
• All component design to be performed using 3D CAD with the design output as 2D drawings.
• Ensure that all design work is performed as defined within Quality Management System including review, approval, revision control and filing of design output and reporting.
• Support to Operations as required.
Requirements- Essential Skills / Attributes • Excellent hydrodynamic and numerical analysis skills.
• Experience in Orcaflex preferred.
Experience in other hydrodynamic packages welcome.
Experience in running aerodynamically coupled models (e.g.
FAST) welcome.
• Excellent presentation and report writing skills.
• Strong analytical skills with excellence in Microsoft Excel, Matlab, and other computing / programming languages.
• Enthusiastic, positive and proactive nature.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team working skills.
• Practical, creative approach to design with an emphasis on simplicity of design, manufacture and operation.
• Ability to interpret test data and seek innovative solutions for design enhancement.
• Commercial awareness and experience of managing/working within budgets.
• Excellent work ethic & flexibility.
• Fluent / Native English speaker.
• Valid work permit / visa to work in UK.
Desirable Experience • 0 - 5 years industry experience.
• Product Research, Design & Development experience.
• Floating Offshore Wind: platform and mooring systems – analysis and design.
• Knowledge / experience of python programming language.
• Knowledge of the DNV certification process.
• Experience of designing industrial components.
• Knowledge of renewable energy systems and the marine environment.
• Client facing experience.
Other • Travel will be required within UK and Internationally from time to time.
