Medical Secretary - Gynaecology & Obstetrics

Job summary This medical secretary role is to work in Gynaecology & Obstetrics working mainly with the Gynaecology-Oncology team.
This is an exciting and varied role, working alongside clinical team, secretarial colleagues and the Cancer Patient Pathway Manager.The post holder will be required to provide a comprehensive administration service to a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in their allocated service.
The post holder will work in association with the clerical teams to provide a central point of communication for patients, staff and external organisations.
Main duties of the job Key elements, main duties and responsibilities of the role include To provide a comprehensive administrative service and support the operational activity across Gynaecology & Obstetrics.
o Provide a complete medical administrative service which may include, patient correspondence, copy and audio typing, editing and formatting letters, information resources, referral to treatment (RTT) data entry and any other appropriate documents as required.
o To provide a first point of contact, including answering all telephone enquiries from internal and external callers, taking and relaying messages in a polite and helpful manner, and using own judgement to establish the priority of issues and taking action as appropriate.
Disseminate key information in line with Information Governance and other relevant Trust policies.
o To assist in the treatment for patients, for example updating relevant databases and computer systems as needed and to ensure referrals to other healthcare professionals or external organisations are actioned promptly.
o To arrange and (where necessary) cancel/reschedule appointments, book follow-up appointments and manage the waiting list appropriately.
o To scan and upload clinical information as directed to ensure patients' electronic medical records are kept as up to date as possible.
To retrieve results from in-house systems as required by the clinicians.
o Provide cross cover within the administrative team as required.
