Job summary The practice is looking fora full-time/job share receptionist to join our well established, friendly, hard working, busy primary careGP surgery.
The role is to help, assist and directpatients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional.
Toact as the focal point of communication between patients, doctors and otherpractice staff.
Offering general assistance to the practice team and projecting apositive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person orvia the telephone.
Undertaking a variety of administrative duties to assist inthe smooth running of the practice, including the provision of clerical supportto clinical staff and other members of the practice team.
Main duties of the job Process new and follow-up appointment requests frompatients by telephone and in person.Dealing with a busy Reception desk, either face-to-face or on the telephone.Receive patients and direct to appropriate services.Record requests for home visits.
Have a full understandingof the appointment system.Attributes and SkillsGood communication skills, conscientious inapproach to work.
Previous experience working with the general public would be desirable.Working on own initiative,Team work and able to work under pressure is essential.Familiar with IT systems.
The practice uses a clinical system called EMIS.
About us Lawton House surgery is a very busy, friendly GP Practice displaying a good working ethic located inCongleton Cheshire, with a patient population size of 12,795.
It comprises of 5 GPPartners and 3 salaried GPs.
There are 4 Practice Nurses plus 1 Health CareAssistant.
There is a Practice Manager plus a Deputy Practice Manager.
TheAdministration Team comprises of the following:- Reception Manager, 2 Medical Secretaries, Reception/Admistration staff plus a cleaning team.
The practice also uses additional clinicians to help and support with patient services.
Job description Job responsibilities To ensure the smooth andefficient running of the surgery; assisting the General Practitioners andPractice Manager in providing a service to patients.To receive, assist and directpatients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in acourteous, efficient manner.To act as the focal point ofcommunication between patients, doctors and other practice staff.Offer general assistance tothe practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients andother visitors, either in person or via the telephone.Undertake a variety ofadministrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice,including the provision of clerical support to clinical staff and other membersof the practice teamPrincipal Duties andResponsibilities:-Open premises, checking heating and clinical and administration rooms and restore day time telephone and computer services.Process new and follow-up appointment requests from patients by telephone and in person.Receive patients and direct to appropriate services.Record requests for home visits.Registration of new patients and temporary residents, following practice policy.Process patients change of address.Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines.Dealing with and receiving pathological specimens from patients with due regard for safe and correct handling and processing of them.Have a full understanding of the appointment system.Act as a central source of information.Have a clear understanding of telephone systems, daytime and out of hours.Understand security systems alarms and fire proceduresComputer data entry and clinical coding processing and recording information in accordance with practiceproceduresProcessing of incoming & outgoing mail, including medical records, hospital reports and other letters asappropriate.Taking messages and passing on information to relevant departments.Provide cover for members of the reception team during periods of sickness and annual leave.Other TasksProcessing reports from other organisations including other health service bodies, solicitors, benefits agency and other third parties.Providing clerical/administrative assistance to the practice.Air and tidy waiting room and consulting rooms after each sessions (including checking patient toilets).Unlocking and locking of the surgery and general security, including setting the burglar alarm.
Maintain a safe and tidy reception area and provide or organise hands on emergency maintenance and cleaning as required, this could include the clearing up of bodily fluids, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.Leave information regarding unsolved or urgent problems with GPs or other staff members.Leave reception area tidy and ready for incoming colleagues.Provide chaperone services as required.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Maths and English - GCSE or equivalent Grade C or above Previous experience working with the general public.
Desirable Previous experience working in a GP practice or dealing with the General Public.
