Medical Laboratory Assistant - Blood Sciences

Job summary We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to work alongside our team of Biomedical Scientists and Associates Practitioners to deliver high quality care to our patients.The successful candidate will be part of the Blood Sciences team, preparing samples for scientific procedures and performing laboratory based manual, semi-automated and automated procedures to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and the investigation of other pathological processes.The laboratory values our staff and we fully support and encourage learning and development of all individuals.
Main duties of the job Receipt and sorting of samples into the department.Support the role of Biomedical Scientists (BMS) within Blood Sciences under the supervision of the MLA Manager and HCPC registered staff.Pre analytical preparation of samples.Data inputting of patient information/requests onto the laboratory computer.Telephone enquiry and results service.Assisting in the general cleanliness and tidying of the section.Perform laboratory based manual, semi-automated and fully automated analytical techniques according to the laboratory SOP.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Sound general education-ideally GSCE grades A-C or equivalent in Maths and English Desirable Formal or vocational lab-based qualification eg IBMS Certificate of achievement or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a science related subject Experience & Motivation Essential Willingness to attend relevant courses and undertake specialist training as required Desirable Experience of working in a blood science laboratory, performing tests and maintaining equipment Specialist Knowledge Essential Understands the contribution of blood science to patient care Computer literate (MS Word & Excel) Aware of laboratory safety issues and maintaining patient confidentiality Desirable Previous use of blood science analysers & equipment Experience of using laboratory information systems Experience of internal and external laboratory quality assurance methods
