An FTTP Surveyor plays a critical role in the planning and deployment of fibre-optic networks, focusing on identifying the most efficient and practical routes for fibre installations.
This includes both overground (pole-mounted) and underground (duct-based) infrastructure.
Responsibilities Conduct detailed site surveys to assess the feasibility of overground and underground routes for FTTP installations.
Identify the best pathways for fibre installation, minimising disruption and maximizing efficiency.
Assess existing infrastructure, such as Openreach poles, ducts, and manholes, to determine suitability for fibre deployment.
Record site-specific details, including obstacles, clearance requirements, and potential hazards.
Prepare accurate and detailed survey reports, including maps, schematics, and photographs.
Document required materials, equipment, and labour for the proposed installations.
Ensure all plans align with UK regulations and industry standards, such as CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations.
Liaise with design teams, project managers, and local authorities to ensure project plans are accurate and approved.
Engage with property owners or tenants to discuss access and installation details as needed.
Ensure adherence to Health & Safety standards, including risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
Work in compliance with UK-specific regulations, including compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA).
Use tools such as Orion Software, Coordinate with field engineers and installation teams to ensure the surveyed routes are feasible for implementation.
Skills & Experience Understanding of FTTP architecture, including splitters, splicing, and fibre enclosures.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical plans, schematics, and maps.
Familiarity with tools like Orion software.
Prior experience in telecoms, utilities, or construction sectors, especially in fibre-optic network deployment.
Knowledge of Openreach infrastructure and PIA (Physical Infrastructure Access) standards is highly desirable.
NRSWA accreditation (Street Works Certificate).
Health & Safety certifications, such as CSCS card.
IPAF (for aerial work on poles) or confined space certification (for underground work) is an advantage.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in field environments.
