Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the role of an MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) Co-ordinator at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
Do you have excellent administration skills, a good eye for detail and the tenacity to 'go that extra mile' and be the 'backstage navigator' representing patients who have been referred to hospital on a suspected cancer pathway?
It is essential that all patients referred to hospital by their GP with a suspicion of cancer have every stage of their journey tracked daily, to make sure that they receive a timely diagnosis (within 28 days) and those patients found to have cancer, commence treatment within 62 days of being referred into the Trust.
Being referred to hospital for investigations to rule out cancer can be a very worrying time for patients and their families.
As an MDT Coordinator you will play a vital role by tracking the patient's journey by ensuring all relevant tests and appointments are booked as quickly as possible.
A developmental role at a Band 3 would be considered for the right applicant.
Main duties of the job This is a responsible role and attention to detail is key to ensure that nothing is missed and that all administrative tasks are completed as soon as possible.
Our MDT Coordinators play an integral part in the patient journey, albeit in the background.
Every clinician relies on the MDT Coordinators tacking to be accurate and up to date.Each month the trust receives around 4000 urgent suspected cancer referrals.
Each referral must be tracked through their pathway by our MDT Coordinator and Pathway tracker team based in two locations (Colchester and Ipswich hospitals).Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, once fully trained you will provide proactive administrative management from referral to treatment or discharge.
Previous NHS experience is preferred but these roles are not limited to those with experience.
A mature attitude, a willingness to learn the role and to care about its importance in relation to supporting patients on a suspected cancer pathway is essential.You will need to have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in a busy, challenging but rewarding environment.
You must be a team player, have a positive approach to change and be highly motivated to work effectively and efficiently to support the delivery of the Cancer Waiting Times Standards.

Find out about living and working here - Job description Job responsibilities Working closely alongside both clinical and operation teams, MDT Coordinators are responsible for collating the necessary information for each patient to determine next steps on the clinical pathway and where necessary prepare, attend, and capture MDT meeting outcomes.
Please note: this role does not involve direct contact with patients but everything that is done in this job role has the patient at the centre and has an impact on their Suspected cancer pathway.
The role also involves the collection and input of audit data, in line with the national dataset requirements (data captured by the MDT team, once validated, is used by NHS England to inform the public, politicians and central government of the trusts performance against national cancer waiting times standards).
