Job description Job responsibilities There is a requirement to exchange verbal and written routine information with a variety of different groups of staff.
The information dealt with may be of a complex or sensitive nature and tact and diplomacy will be required in communications in order to negotiate required outcomes.
To ensure communication channels are used appropriately to facilitate the flow of information internally and externally.
To provide cover and support for other members of the cancer support team, as necessary, to maintain the smooth running of MDT meetings and the provision of seamless pathways of care for patients.
To communicate with members of the MDT verbally, electronically or in writing to ensure that the information necessary for effective team functioning is available at each meeting.
Attend the MDT meetings to facilitate the setting up, closing and other associated tasks of the MDT meetings.
The work requires a baseline theoretical knowledge of medical terminology and of computer software programmes The post-holder will require knowledge of the patients administration and other related systems, acquired through training and experience to NVQ3 or equivalent.
Understanding of a range of work procedures possibly outside immediate work area, some of which are non-routine.
There will be a requirement to exercise judgement when dealing with requests for patient information and access to MDT meetings.
The post holder will need to be able to analyse information relating to patients investigations, patient pathway and clinical protocols in order to select the correct option for the patient.
The post holder will be required to interrogate MDT records and analyse this information in order to identify trends in attendance.
To provide administrative facilitation of meetings including preparing, organising and circulating agendas and lists.
To identify any changes to the MDT list in a timely fashion and to communicate these to relevant team members.
To work to schedules to ensure all relevant information is available to the MDT meeting in a timely fashion The post requires physical skills which are normally obtained through practice over a period of time or during practical training, standard keyboard skills and use of the hospital PAS Assists patients/clients/relatives during incidental contacts.
The post holder will be required to implement operational policies and procedures in their own area relevant to the MDTs covered and will be expected to propose changes to the working practises in their own area in order to bring about improvements in the MDT service or function.
The post-holder will be responsible for safe use of equipment utilised by self and other members of the MDT.
This may include setting up of computers, imaging/pathology viewing equipment, projectors and video-conferencing equipment.
The Post-holder will be responsible for the safe use of equipment and returning this to a secure storage after use The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the MDT rooms are returned to the pre meeting standard layout and all patient identifiable documents are removed and stored / destroyed appropriately The post holder will contribute to the training and induction of new members of staff and support less experienced members of staff by sharing experience and offering advice on working practices.
The post holder will be required to process, transmit and store patient data using computerised systems and to file paper data within the case record in a retrievable format.
To utilise appropriate software excel/access in order to provide regular monthly reports on the attendance and activity of the MDTs in numeric and graphical form for Peer Review visits.
Will deal with general enquiries and resolve routine problems Will be expected to refer more complex issues to the relevant Patient pathway tracker for advice There is a daily requirement to exert moderate physical effort for several long periods during a shift related to the movement of laptops and other pieces of mobile equipment.
There is a frequent requirement for concentration where the work pattern is unpredictable.
Requirement to use VDU equipment more or less continuously on most days.
