Description Manufacturing Engineers within GMA are responsible for detail planning, development and coordination of production processes which enable production of high-quality vehicles across all models undertaken by Gordon Murray Automotive.
Working together with GMAE members to continuously improve / develop manufacturing process to achieve Quality, Cost and Delivery targets.
Identify unsafe operations and practices, establish safety procedures and meet environmental regulations for employees.
Key Responsibilities Planning, development and coordination of production processes in detail to achieve Quality, Cost and Delivery targets.
Ownership of vehicle build sequencing through virtual, prototype and production build phases.
Facility layout ownership and equipment scoping.
Perform engineering analysis to reduce downtime /outages, resolve process related quality concerns and process cycle time issues including line balancing Performing root cause analysis and owning resolutions.
PFMEA & DFMEA activities.
Plan and develop manufacturing process and in-build quality control processes by creating process operating instructions & equipment specifications.
Working with the tooling and fixtures design engineer to produce jigs and fixtures to meet required specifications to support production build.
Provide engineering support for production and maintenance activities to ensure Quality, Cost and Delivery targets are met.
Approval of engineering releases and engineering change.
Evaluate current production activities and make recommendations for improvements.
Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high quality standards.
Working cross functionally with operations and engineering teams to achieve business goals.
Identify unsafe operations/practices, establish safe procedures which meets regulations.
Provides training and guidance to team members to accomplish production goals.
Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes.
Develop best practices to improve production capacity, quality and reliability.
Communicate day-to-day activities with the team.
Maintain good communication with Principal Manufacturing Engineer, ensuring that the priority and work plan are aligned, support budget preparation and monitor expenses and profitability.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree preferred, A Levels, ONC, City & Guilds level 3, BTec National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma, or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification.
Strong, proven and relevant automotive experience at an appropriate consultancy or OEM.
Experience of full product life-cycle activities and ability to achieve Quality, Cost and Delivery targets for production.
Experience of FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), Kaizen/A3 (continuous improvement and problem solving) process improvement and Poka Yoke (error proofing) techniques.
Ability to create manufacturing process development plans and schedule own activities.
Experience in managing suppliers.
Able to use a variety of IT Packages (e.g.
Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Smartsheets, PowerBI)) at an advanced standard.
Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
