About the Role As our new Managing Editor, you will oversee the submission system and peer review processes for a portfolio of computational biology and bioinformatics journals, specifically Bioinformatics , Bioinformatics Advances , and Briefings in Bioinformatics .
You will ensure that submissions and publications adhere to editorial policies and industry best practice, and collaborate closely with colleagues and external journal stakeholders to maintain an efficient and ethical peer review process.
Other duties will include: Ensure the integrity of the editorial and peer review processes and workflows for manuscripts submitted to assigned journal(s), including-where applicable-supervising and monitoring the performance of editorial office support staff.
Build strong relationships with and act as the primary editorial office liaison and escalation point for authors, reviewers, editors, and colleagues.
Collaborate with editors and colleagues to meet key performance indicators such as editorial turnaround times.
Act as primary submission system technical lead, including ensuring that all workflow processes and configurations are documented, streamlined, and optimized to deliver an exemplary experience for authors, reviewers, and editors.
Provide training and troubleshooting guidance as needed to ensure editors and other stakeholders are using the submission system effectively.
Assist with building and maintaining the editorial board to provide adequate and diverse coverage and representation.
Work collaboratively and productively with Publisher(s) and other colleagues to create and implement journal strategies, including monitoring progress against stated objectives.
Help create and implement standards, templates, and other editorial office resources to ensure editorial safeguards are in place across the journal portfolio.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
