Job summary Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust requires a highly motivated, reliable and flexible Building Craftsperson to work as a key member of the Estates Team.
You will play a proactive role within the team, delivering key objectives to meet both departmental and Trust requirements.The post holder will assist the Estates Directorate to provide a comprehensive and responsive Estate Management Service to all of the Trust's properties.You will be a hands on maintenance building craftsperson who is able to deliver the full range of duties associated with the post holder's core craft trade.
Main duties of the job To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and responsive maintenance service to all of the Trusts properties.To diagnose and repair faults and to maintain, by application of Painting/Decorating, Carpentry, Joinery skills, plant and equipment.Diagnose faults, carry out repair and maintain the building engineering services, plant and equipment.Deliver safe isolations within your specialist craft skill set.This post will be based at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital covering services across the Trust's Luton and Dunstable sites.Hours are hours week Monday - Friday About us Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton.

Job description Job responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Identify, diagnose, rectify faults, and carry out repairs and planned maintenance of a general nature of building fabric, plant and equipment including but not limited to: external doors, fire doors, access doors, wooden, plastic and aluminium windows, flooring, suspended ceilings, walls, fire proofing, electrical and mechanical closers, various types of locks and locking mechanisms, interior and external signage, fencing and various fixing and fixtures, glass and glazing.
Maintain decorations both internal and external of all Trust properties and cleanliness of fabric, plant and equipment.
Complete all mandatory training as required Fabricate, assemble, erect, install and commission new work, associated with the core skill.
Assist team members where other skills are involved.
Liaise with clinical staff to arrange shutdowns and maintenance of equipment and plant.
Carry out periodic checking, servicing and testing of plant and equipment, in accordance with planned maintenance programmes and schedules.
The post will involve working at height, using access equipment, lifting and handling of heavy objects, and working in enclosed spaces such as roof voids and service ducts etc.
Familiarise, train or instruct others as appropriate.
Day to day supervision of Maintenance Assistants.
Comply with procedures and regulations and the Trusts Health and Safety policy, procedures and working practices.
Abide by all infection prevention and control procedures Complete all relevant paperwork systems necessary in the running of the department.
Undertake training, where necessary, to improve skills, learn new techniques or to ensure compliance with regulations or procedures.
To have the ability to carry out minor duties of other trades when required such as building and carpentry.
To adhere to the Estates Department dress code, being very well presented, wearing the supplied uniform at all times.
To work in accordance with all relevant Trust policies and procedures.
Immediately notify the Maintenance Supervisor or other appropriate line manager of any unsafe practice or contravention of statutory regulations or Trust policy Person Specification Qualifications Essential NVQ level 3, C&G or equivalent in a relevant building maintenance trade Recognised building/carpentry apprenticeship or equivalent qualification and experience Desirable Wood Working Machinery Certificate Experience Essential Proven experience in general building maintenance, outside core trade of Painting/Decorating, Carpentry, Joinery.
