Job summary This post will provide a comprehensive specialist service to clients with benign breast disease, women undergoing breast screening and patients with breast cancer.
They will act as an expert and resource for members of the multi-disciplinary team, providing clinical leadership within this area of care, developing specialist education and supporting research relevant to the speciality.
The post holder will act as the key worker and liaise with other healthcare professionals to provide the best possible specialist care for their patients The post holder will support the nursing lead to develop the breast services, adhering to the NICE guidance and the 10 key roles for Nursing and Midwifery.
Main duties of the job Provide and receive, sensitive, highly complex or contentious information and barriers to understanding.Facilitate communication, which results in clear responsibilities being identified within the multi-professional teamCommunicate highly sensitive condition related information to patients, relatives providing empathy and reassuranceTo co-ordinate the patients journey, acting as a key worker.Exchange verbal and written information with patients, staff and carers requiring tact and diplomacy.Under the guidance of the leads you will assist in the assessment of needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and reflect the Trusts policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment.

It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment Knowledge, Training & Experience Current NMC registration Completed the Principles of Breast Care Practice Course at level 6/7or a willingness to undertake complete the Principles of Breast Care Practice Course at level 6/7 Minimum of 2 years post registration experience to preferably include 1 year experience of a leadership position.
Evidence of study at degree level in Health/Nursing Related Studies or have a willingness to undertake degree/masters level study.
ENB 998/ Mentorship/Assessor module or equivalent or have experience of teaching and assessing With guidance of the leads to assist in change and support new ways of working Leadership and management skills Analytical & Judgemental Skills The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and reflect the Trusts policies, procedures standards and guidelines.
The post holder will demonstrate the skills for assessing and interpreting specialist acute and other patient conditions, initiating actions as appropriate.
Planning & Organisational Skills The post holder will prioritise and plan own specialist workload and organise own time according to their delegated job plan.
Contribute to the principles of clinical governance ensuring that quality standards are set and monitored.
Ensure that clinical risk management and clinical audit are an integral part of the department function.
Required to co-ordinate activities with other professional agencies and support groups.
To support the development of Specialist information booklets and leaflets for patient care.
Physical Skills Required to have dexterity and accuracy required for relevant tasks and procedures including seroma drainage, complex wound dressings and is able to demonstrate clinical skills to aid the education of others The post holder must have standard keyboard skills, and be able to use presentation, projection/multi media equipment and e-learning resources Responsibility for Patient/Client Care To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for nurses, midwives and health visitors and to be accountable for own clinical practice and professional actions at all times.
Ensure continued and effective registration with the NMC Assesses, develops and implements specialist nursing care programmes, advising patients and relatives on matters relating to their clinical condition To promote patient health, and to assist in education strategies for healthy lifestyles and to sign post patients to specialist help Ensure the care provided reflects the requirements of the CQC, Proud to care and other Nursing initiatives.
Responsibility for Policy/Service Development Implements policies and procedures, and proposes changes to practices for own area, contributing to the development of specialist protocols.
Assist in the delivery of education to support staff in the adoption of new policies and procedures.
Support the development and implementation of local Standard operating procedures, patient information and policies Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources Demonstrate safe working practices in the use of equipment in the clinical areas, and support Sisters/Charge Nurses to maintain equipment training records for all staff.
Responsibility for Human Resources Working with the Leads, provide leadership to the clinical team and identify innovation in clinical practice Provides clinical supervision to other staff and students Contributes to the training of other staff on the specific clinical condition Contribute to the formal induction and preceptorship of all new staff.

To collect statistical information and reports as requested for the Trust.
Updates and maintains patient records.
Responsibility for Research and Development Working in conjunction with the Breast Care team the post holder will be required to use, and disseminate current research findings to professional colleagues through the education process.
To collaborate with other members of the service to develop clinical audit to measure outcomes related to education and practice Support patinys in research or clinical trials as required Participate as an individual in surveys and audits as necessary to own work.

Physical Effort The post requires a combination of physical effort including sitting, standing, walking and occasional moderate effort for several short periods Mental Effort The post requires frequent regular levels of concentration within an often unpredictable work pattern and environment.
