Main duties of the jobThe main responsibilities is to provide consultant leadership and expertise to the Hillingdon Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) East team. You would be required to provide clinical leadership within the multi-disciplinary team.
There are a number of transformative changes occurring within community services and the NHS at large. You would be expected to lead on, in partnership with the service manager, quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation projects.
Consultant responsibility is assumed by the Acute Inpatient Consultant during periods of inpatient admission; liaison between Inpatient and Community services to best meet the needs of the service user is a priority.
The current caseload for the post holder is 175. The team receives on average 80 referrals per month, with an acceptance rate of 80%. The team caseload is 730.
The post holder is currently holding 7 patients on CTO. The team are currently working on identifying which cohort of patients can be safely discharged back to primary care in order to significantly reduce the caseload.

Job responsibilitiesProviding clinical leadership to the teamActing as Responsible Clinician for patients on community orders, including preparing reports for and attending Hospital Managers and Mental Health Review Tribunal hearingsParticipating in clinical and business meetings of the multidisciplinary teamParticipating in team learning / development eventsAssessing new referrals with other MDT membersProviding phone advice for clinical staffBeing available for emergency and home visits at short notice, and participating as necessary in Mental Health Act assessments. This will include participating in the Section 12 rotaTeaching and training staff, especially junior doctors and medical students, but also other clinical staff and trainees of all disciplineProviding supervision to Junior Doctors: GPVTS trainee and SASG doctor. Supervisory roles and responsibilities are agreed in conjunction with Consultant colleagues in HillingdonProviding supervision as required for the clinical work of the junior doctors within the teamProviding support and advice to colleagues of different professional backgrounds as requiredAttending the local consultants meetingAttending the borough monthly Care Quality meetingsAttending daily zoning meetings and monthly business meetingsPerson SpecificationEducation and Qualifications TrainingFully registered with the GMC with a license to practice.Primary Medical DegreeApproved under section 12(2) MHA, 1983 or within 3 monthsInclusion on the Specialist Register (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)An additional post graduate qualification of relevance to post e.g. Higher degree (MSc, LLM, MD or PhD) MRCPsych (or equivalent)Management and leadership trainingManagement qualification and/or extensive knowledge and expertise acquired through training and experience up to doctoral level.Experience, Skills and AbilitiesPossesses range of clinical knowledge, skills relevant to postExercises sound clinical risk management.Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary teamInterest in and experience of teaching and training medical and non medical colleaguesComprehensive and clear psychiatric report writing skills.Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislationExperience of clinical work in a community settingLeadership and management skills.
