Locum Consultant Paediatrician

Job summary We seek to appoint a Locum Consultant Paediatrician.
A special interest in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine would be beneficial to the department however all special interests would be welcomed.
The successful candidate will work alongside 14 consultant paediatricians as part of a welcoming and enthusiastic team providing care to the children and families of Herefordshire and the surrounding areas.
The department offers first class paediatric medicine within a supportive friendly team and delivers a comprehensive range of services.
A good general paediatric and neonatal background is the priority and practical skills are essential.
The post is based at Hereford County Hospital in the City of Hereford; there may be some peripheral clinics in the surrounding market towns.
Main duties of the job oTo provide, with Consultant colleagues, general paediatric and neonatal services within Wye Valley NHS Trust for the prevention, diagnosis and management of illness and the proper functioning of the department.
o To participate in the Consultant of the Week (CoW) ( PA) and twilight ( PA) rota.
The Consultant of the Week is responsible for all the patients seen by the paediatric team for a consecutive period Monday - Thursday or Friday - Sunday, the week is split to provide better work-life balance.
The Consultant of the Week will have no other routine commitments such as clinics.
The twilight consultant works evening shifts Mondays - Fridays so that the CoW finishes their shift at o To participate in the resident 12 hour shift night rota (4 nights per 10 week cycle) ( PA).
There is a rest day provided directly before andafter each night shift.
o To participate in the 1 in 10 non-resident on call rota ( PA).
oTo perform urgent (acute) Child Safeguarding Medicals when the concern is in the category of physical abuse.
This cover is included in the Consultant of the Week and Twilight role and in exceptionally circumstances may be provided on a night shift.
o To undertake out patient clinics.
o The post holder undertakes to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

We believe in providing the right care in the right place at the right the time Job description Job responsibilities Please see further information on the attached job description and personal specification.Any inquires regarding this post please do contact Lesley Peers on Person Specification Education & Qualifications Essential Full doctors GMC registration with licence to practise MBBS or equivalent MRCPCH (by examination) or equivalent On GMC Specialist Register for General Paediatrics with full registration or proposed date of CCT within 6 months of interview or portfolio (CESR) pathway Desirable Higher Degree (BSc, MSc, MD, PhD) Experience & Knowledge Essential Competent to work without direct supervision Training and experience in general paediatrics (minimum 3 years at middle grade level) APLS or equivalent (within past 4 years) Training and experience in neonatology (minimum 1 year, of which 6 months in a level 3 unit) Up to date competence in practical skills in neonatology NLS or equivalent (within past 4 years) Training and experience in Community Paediatrics (6 months at ST4 level or equivalent) Training and experience in child safeguarding, with Level 3 safeguarding training in past 12 months Appropriate progression of career to date Communication skills (ability to build rapport, listen, persuade, negotiate & counsel families in difficult circumstances) including clear written and spoken English Management Essential Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.
Experience of leading teams and awareness of leadership styles.
Ability to work to overcome barriers to change (negotiating, influencing and persuasion skills).
Evidence of management and administration experience.
Ability to effectively organise, prioritise and manage clinical workload.
Awareness of Service Development issues Commitment to further develop the post and the service provided.
Desirable Understanding of wider health agenda and modern NHS.
Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance issues.
Management training on an accredited course.
