Job summary The Microbiology laboratory is based on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site and has full UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation providing comprehensive diagnostic microbiology services to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, local general practices and local private healthcare providers.In 2022/23 approximately 709,189investigations were processed.
Approximately 55% is from in-patients andA&E with the rest received from primary care direct access andWorcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust.
Most work in performed in-house, withonly specialised serology and some molecular diagnostic work referred to otherlaboratories.The Trust has teaching status with medicalundergraduates from the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick.
Main duties of the job The successful candidate will join the enthusiastic team of Consultant Microbiologists in providing a comprehensive clinical microbiology and infection advice service to the Acute Trust and community.The post attracts 10 programmed activities, and the post holder will be expected to work flexibly across the Acute Trusts hospital sites and to participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota which is shared with Consultant colleagues from Wye Valley NHS Trust, Hereford.
The on-call service covers both Worcestershire and Wye Valley NHS Acute Trusts in addition to Worcestershire and Herefordshire Health and Social Care Trusts and primary care across both counties.On call: Category A 5% on-call availability supplement.
