Locum Consultant In Acute/General Medicine

Job summary The Division of Medicine is looking to fill a vacancy within Acute/General Medicine in order to increase the consultant capacity within the acute medical team.
A 'special' interest (as defined by the Acute Internal Medicine curriculum or dual CCT) will be considered.
The Trust is based on two Acute sites with Acute Medical services on each site.
The Acute Strokeunit is based at Calderdale Hospital along with specialist Cardiology and Respiratory wards and thespecialist Gastroenterology and Oncology/Haematology wards are based at Huddersfield withspecialist Frailty and Care of the Elderly services.
Main duties of the job The successful applicant will form part of our Acute Medical Consultant team, providing Acute services across the two Trust sites, Successful candidates will be expected to cover our two Acute Floors, Short Stay/outlying wards, Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) unit and EDs (Admission Avoidance).The Acute teams run the Acute Medical Units (AMUs) with a total bed base of 106 (60 CRH, 46 HRI- including Frailty).
These are planned as 'acute floors' incorporating both Acute assessment beds but also short stay beds.
The Huddersfield 'floor' is shared with the Acute Frailty team who have ongoing responsibility for 22 patients.
Successful candidates will be expected to cover Acute/Short Stay and outlying wards.
There is a consultant led ward round of the AMUs each morning, followed by continual assessment on the AMUs until 8pm on most days of the week.

The Trust Board and Local Negotiating Committee have agreed that a Core allocation of SPAs should be allocated to undertake CPD, appraisal, clinical supervision, audit and clinical governance, mandatory training and the general management of the service.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential MRCP or equivalent Specialist registration for Acute Medicine is preferred (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise Desirable Relevant higher degree Experiance and Achievements Essential Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Acute Medicine specialty Desirable Also, should have significant minor Acute Medicine procedures experience and any other post graduate qualifications that can advance the department needs would be preferable Understanding current issues within the wider NHS Attendance at a recognised management course Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions Teaching and Training Essential Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
Desirable Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications Training in clinical and educational supervision Attendance at a teaching course Audit and Research Essential Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects Desirable Critical Appraisal Skills Evidence of knowledge of research methodology Disposition-Adjustment/Attitude/Commitment Essential Good communication and empathy skills with patients Evidence of willingness to participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment to provide an integrated service Ability to work as a member of a team, both through communication and sharing workload Ability to manage high pressure situations clinical crisis Ability to prioritise and organise workload and co-ordinate staff Ability to integrate the care of a patient by many and various other clinical staff Willingness to work flexibly to deliver clinically effective and cost effective healthcare Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities Desirable Evidence of continual learning and development Understands self (strengths and weaknesses) and impact of behaviour on others Evidence of innovation Ability to use a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software, email and internet browser General Essential Eligibility to work in the UK Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust For areas requiring EPP Clearance (Exposure Prone Procedures), this will also be a requirement of the health screening An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required with the
