Locum Consultant Haematologist with an interest in Haemoglobinopathies and Therapeutic Apheresis Applications are invited for this exciting new post that offers the opportunity to become a key member of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) and Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust teams with the task of providing expert advice and leadership in the practice haemoglobinopathies and red cell exchange.
The post offers a wealth of opportunity to participate in clinical research and is primarily based at the Luton and Dunstable hospital site.
The post will initially be appointed for 6 months with a view to becoming a substantive post in due course.
The post holder will join a growing team of consultants within NHSBT's National Cell, Apheresis and Gene Therapies (CAGT) division.
They will provide clinical expertise and medical leadership in the delivery of red cell exchange for patients with haemoglobinopathies across the Midlands and East of England.
As part of the wider team specialising in therapeutic apheresis, they will provide expertise for some patients receiving plasma exchange.
The post holder will provide care for patients with haemoglobinopathies both as inpatients and outpatients .
They will provide laboratory services and co-ordinate care of patients as part of the regional red cell exchange service.
They will work closely with the paediatric service to improve transition of care.
The postholder is expected to contribute to local and regional policy, quality and development of the haemoglobinopathy service.
Through NHSBT, there is potential to lead nationally in a number of areas depending on the postholders interests.
Applicants should have full and specialist registration (Haematology) (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview) and have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview.
