Locum Consultant Anaesthetist in Obstetric AnaesthesiaSt George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation TrustApplications are invited to apply for a position as a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will carry out their duties as a full-time Consultant Anaesthetist.
The role will also offer the opportunity to deliver Anaesthetic sessions in a wider teaching hospital environment.
Job responsibilitiesSt Georges Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a skilled and motivated Consultant Anaesthetist to join our dynamic Team.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute expertise in obstetric anaesthesia within a renowned healthcare institution.
The position attracts a total of 10 PAs: 9 DCC and 1 SPA.
Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experience as described in the person specification in the job plan description.
They should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their expected CCT date at the time of interview.
Applicants unable to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post.
Experience of NHS working practices and systems (minimum one year working for the NHS) is essential. The anaesthetic team at St Georges is a highly diverse and inclusive workforce of over 100 consultants providing expertise in a wide variety of anaesthetic subspecialties including Paediatrics, Neurosurgery, Cardio-thoracics, Intensive Care, Acute and Chronic Pain relief and academic positions in SGUL.
There are over 60 trainees from South West London School of Anaesthesia and clinical fellows who rotate through the anaesthesia subspecialties.
The post holder will join the Obstetric Group of Anaesthetists which consists of 20 Consultants.

The case mix at St Georges tends to be complex and challenging.

Person SpecificationQualificationsHolder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anaesthesia or equivalent, within six months of interview.FRCA or equivalent.Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for registration within six months of interview.MSc, PhD or similar.Other resuscitation certifications.ExperienceEvidence of broad experience in all aspects of general anaesthesia and able to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.Experience of NHS working practices and systems (minimum one year working for the NHS).At least 6 months Advanced Training or equivalent, or Fellowship in Obstetric Anaesthesia.Relevant publications in peer-reviewed literature.Postgraduate research.Skills - clinicalLogbook evidence of all cases within the last 2 years.Logbook evidence within obstetrics.Evidence of attendance at High Risk Obstetric Anaesthetic Clinic or similar.Skills - teachingEvidence of formal training in teaching methods.Delivering teaching to Anaesthetic Consultants and Trainees.Evidence of Multi-disciplinary teaching in Obstetrics.Evidence of delivering teaching to undergraduate students, postgraduate doctors and/or allied healthcare professionals.Post-graduate teaching qualification or equivalent.Teaching in the Simulator setting.Evidence of Teaching at National Level / Regional Level.Awards or prizes for presentations delivered.Skills - ITUse of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams (or similar applications).Designing infographics, posters.Skills - leadership and managementCompletion of appropriate Management /Leadership course(s).Previous experience/participation in a management/leadership role.Trainee Representative.Lead role in developing a service.Non-clinical management experience.Audit, Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) and service improvementCompletion of Audits and/or QIPs within Obstetric Anaesthesia.Knowledge and understanding of ACSA (Anaesthetic Clinical Service Accreditation).Experience in leading clinical audits, implementing change and monitoring compliance.Adapting National Guidelines to departmental level, example RCOA/OAA/AAGBI guideline.Awareness of service development issues.Personal QualitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to develop rapport with and discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand.Awareness of own personal developmental needs.To live our Trust values: Excellent, kind, respectful and responsible.Ability to support and motivate staff, to develop junior clinicians and other staff personnel.Hobbies/interests outside of medicine.Disclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
