Locum Consultant Anaesthetist

Job summary The advertised post is for a locum consultant post.
The post is for ten PA's per week, of which it is anticipated seven will be for direct clinical care and three for supporting professional activity (SPA).
Additional DCC sessions may be available by separate discussion and the job planning process.
DCC sessions will be to provide emergency on call cover and anaesthesia for elective theatre lists.All consultant anaesthetists are expected to be competent to anaesthetise children down to one year old and to be able to help critically ill children younger than this while awaiting retrieval to a tertiary centre.
Main duties of the job Your Consultant supervisor would be the Lead Clinician of the Anaesthetics Department.
You would be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the directorate as determined by the consultant on your team and provide a high quality service to the local population.
To assist in the supervision and teaching of junior trainees.
To contribute, to local clinical governance activities including clinical audit and clinical risk initiatives.
You will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services.
Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service you will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board, drawn up in consultation with the profession where they involve clinical matters.
You will be expected to pursue local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures in the management of employees of the Health Board.

Person Specification Experience Essential Full GMC registration with license to practice and up to date appraisal / revalidation.
Postgraduate training in anaesthesia to CCT level (or non -UK equivalent) Desirable Experience as a consultant in the UK Knowledge/ Qualification Essential Final FRCA (or non UK equivalent) ALS Desirable ATLS Basic Skills & Abilities Essential General and regional anaesthesia for a range of surgical specialities to all age groups above 1 year old Desirable Obstetric anaesthesia Regional anaesthesia for upper limb surgeries Competent to transfer patients for specialist care Teaching Essential Willing and able to teach trainees in theatre on attached lists Desirable Willingness to participate in departmental teaching Proven ability in preparing and delivering teaching material Other Relevant Requirements Essential Adaptability to changing needs of service Work in pressured environment Desirable Basic Welsh speaker Ability to travel
