We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Licensing Associate to join the team based in Bristol.
The Licensing Associate will be responsible for performing sales licensing and negotiation activity with our global customer base, as well as sharing legal expertise with the wider business.
The role will be responsible for helping to ensure the successful negotiation and completion of complex sales licences; ensuring they are executed in an accurate, timely and efficient manner, in-line with customer and business requirements.
The Licensing Associate is a pivotal link between the regional Sales teams around the world, customers and the sales operations team.
You will act as a subject matter expert within the licensing team, developing the contractual language the business requires for standard templates, new products and services and customised arrangements.
Key Accountabilities: Partnering with colleagues to manage the licensing process and negotiate agency, subscription, consortia and transformative agreement sales.
Supporting sales by directly engaging with customers, as appropriate, to resolve issues, answering queries and providing tender documentation.
Working with Sales Team to understand standard products and services we sell; maintaining and updating the standard licence templates for use by the licensing team.
Working collaboratively with Sales, Legal Team and others around the business, where relevant, to develop licensing terms and conditions to meet new business requirements.
Leading the licensing process for the most complex contracts; working in conjunction with the Sales Team to advise, amending and negotiating deals.
Partnering with colleagues within the business, to understand customers' licence requirements and implications of changes.
Drafting effective legal clauses to reflect the requirements of each case.
Acting as subject matter expert within the team on contract law and providing guidance for the Licensing Team.
Advising team members and supporting review of documents where required.
Requirements Legal degree/qualification or equivalent experience Experience of drafting and negotiating license content globally Experience of working with different categories of global customers including academic institutions and corporate Essential to have a background in and experience of working with contracts, ideally in publishing Ability to review, understand the impact of and draft sound legal clauses and text Proven ability to exercise professional judgement in advising decisions Excellent communication skills Knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Medical) publishing desirable but not essential Skilled at collaborative working Creative problem solver Tenacity and drive for results Highly organised with excellent planning skills Avid about continuous improvement
