Legal Counsel - Salary circa £43,000 We have an exciting opportunity for a legal counsel to join the UK General Insurance (GI) personal lines team within Aviva's UK legal function.
This role will be focussed on providing commercial legal advice and regulatory guidance to drive forward Aviva's new and existing GI personal lines portfolio and to support the UK growth agenda.
A bit about the job: You will be joining a committed and collaborative team currently based primarily in Norwich, however the location for this role can be from any of our UK offices.
This is a busy and strategically important team which delivers first class legal advice and manages diverse client relationships across the UK GI businesses.
Day to day you will draft, review and update customer journeys, products, and product literature for our UKGI personal lines products, predominantly home, motor and travel products across a range of channels including direct, and through partners, brokers, and aggregators.
Aviva's own branded products you will be working with include Aviva, Quote Me Happy and General Accident, and you will work with other well-known brands for products sold through our partners and brokers, while supporting the simplification and reduction of products.
You will be responsible for providing clear, commercial legal advice to the UKGI businesses in relation to their products and distribution arrangements working closely with UKGI compliance, governance, and risk functions, and will work collaboratively and share best practice with other members of the wider UK GI legal team and other relevant teams within Aviva's legal function, while building strong relationships with the UK GI and Health businesses and with other key stakeholders within Aviva to assist in proactively monitoring and mitigating legal risks and reporting to the UKGI SLT where appropriate, and drafting advice notes and provide input into Board and Committee papers where required.
Skills and experience we're looking for: Solicitor, barrister, or legal executive, entitled to practice in the UK, or someone advanced in SQE studies.
Knowledge and experience of GI products, FCA rules and Insurance distribution arrangements in a UK regulated market, data protection and consumer credit (preferred but not essential, (full training will be provided).
Negotiating experience and ability to manage relationships with internal stakeholders, third parties and external advisers with the ability to influence stakeholders and provide clear, concise, and commercially focused legal advice.
Ability to manage your own workload and lead transactions and deliver the best advice.
Strong commercial and strategic mindset with ability to see the bigger picture and deliver in terms of the best customer outcome and customer principles.
