Job summary An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen, for a new Band 6 speech and language therapist position within the recently formed NYY&S Intensive Support Service for people with a learning disability.
The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Community Learning Disability Teams, work towards addressing and supporting the health, psychological, emotional and behaviour needs of adults with a learning disability who have complex physical and emotional health needs.
The hours and base can be flexible but we will cover extended hours till 8pm through the week and at weekends The focus of the team is to provide an alternative to in-patient care in-line with the transforming care agenda, focusing on people with a learning disability who are experiencing (but not exclusively) mental health difficulties, behavioural challenges, placement breakdown and medication titration who should be treated in the least restrictive environment with the minimum of disruption to their lives.
The team may also provide some in reach intoAMH/ ACUTE/ LD hospital settings as a liaison support when our clients need to access inpatient settings.
Main duties of the job The successful candidate will need to have a genuine desire to improve the mental health and well-being of adults with learning disability and behaviours that challenge.
They will work as part of a MDT delivering high quality secondary care and enhancing the community services, working with individuals who require specialist interventions using trauma informed care & a recovery-based approach.
The successful candidate must be motivated, flexible, able to communicate effectively, will be expected to be able to travel independently to various locations within the NYY&S locality on a regular basis.
The intensive support team will be a newly developed team and the Band 6 clinical leads will be pinnacle in developing and leading the team.

The service is looking for speech and language therapist with relevant experience or who have a willingness to develop, staff must be able to care coordinate and should be able to work well independently as was as part of a wider be responsible for managing a clinical caseload under the supervision of the Professional Lead, providing assessment, advice and support to clients, carers and other professionals and delivering training.

The Intensive Support Team are based in York at Systems House.
There will be a requirement to travel across the North Yorkshire area based on service user need.
We operate on 12-hour shift pattern covering 7 days a are dedicated to the development of our staff and therefore offer training opportunities as part of the role.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Degree in Speech and Language Therapy Registration with HCPC Post-graduate training in specialist areas relevant to the role .
Intensive Interaction, Talking Mats, Dysphagia, Autism etc.
(or willingness to achieve within agreed timescale) Clinical Supervisory Skills course Trust training in Appraisal and Recruitment (within an agreed timescale) Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent) Desirable Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Experience Essential Significant experience working with people in a community setting Knowledge Essential Understanding of relevant legislation (.
