Job summary Could you be the Lead Transfusion Practitioner at Royal United Hospital in Bath?
We are looking for someone who is passionate about excellent blood transfusion practice, enjoys teaching, and wants the chance to work across the Trust promoting the safe use of blood.
As the lead transfusion practitioner role is specialised, this is an opportunity for someone with the right qualities but missing some of the essential criteria to apply for the 8a role.
We want to hear from you if you are qualified with an MSc in Transfusion and ready to take on the full Band 8a role, but we also want to hear from applicants who are looking for a development role.
For these candidates, we can offer a development post for 3 years at Band 7, with access to a funded MSc in Transfusion and promotion to the 8a role on successful completion.
This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners and Biomedical Scientists with a keen interest and experience in blood transfusion who would be willing to embark on this role as a development post.
You would be supported and guided by the transfusion and pathology teams in this process, and any required qualifications will be funded with study leave available in line with Trust policy.

Main duties of the job Liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary RUH Hospital Transfusion Team (HTT) and other relevant stakeholders to advise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care across professional boundaries.
Exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision-making in highly complex clinical care situations to provide specialist expertise and advice on blood transfusion and patient blood management issues.
Deliver transfusion training and education to other members of staff Present complex clinical information to large groups of staff at all clinical levels and across a large number of clinical specialties.
To lead on clinical audit related to all aspects of transfusion both locally and nationally To promote a culture of continual improvement in patient care through reviewing relevant transfusion and patient blood management evidence base and embedding this in transfusion team practice.
