Main duties of the job The LeadNursing Assistant will work with the Clinical Lead and Occupational Therapistin supervising the day-to-day delivery of the programme of care for theinpatients on the unit.
The expectation is that they will be proficient,competent and require minimum supervision in delivering high quality care thatis evidence based.
They will ensure that planned care is delivered safely andeffectively by the team and focussed on achieving the outcomes detailed inpatients care plans.
They will complement the work of the multi-disciplinaryteam in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of inpatients.
Ourservices operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

This requiresobservational skills, attention to detail and the ability to seek support/advicefrom senior colleagues as required.To liaise with themultidisciplinary team, care co-ordinators, General Practitioners and any otherrelevant parties involved, as per NICE guidelines and local policyAdvise service users, theirfamily members and professional colleagues on appropriate lifestyle changes toan individuals physical and social environments which will promote enablementand independenceTo participate in inpatientreviews involving service users, their families and other professionals andagenciesTo identify when a carersassessment is required and to ensure referral on to appropriate agencies andsupport networks (with support from senior colleagues)To act as an advocate for ourservice users and ensure that their voice is heard throughout their careTo assist in maintaining thesafe administration and storage of medication in accordance with Navigo policies and procedures.
The post holderwill need to demonstrate the proficiencies for medication administration as setout in the Navigo Medication Management policyPrompt, enable and encourageservice users to be compliant with their medication regime and support juniorstaff to do this under the supervision and direction of nursing staff.
This mayinvolve the use of concomitant aids, the collection of medication fromcommunity or hospital pharmacies and the delivering of medication to serviceusersTo complete audits ofmedication & medication care plans and support in the assessment ofindividuals.It may be necessary that someweekend and night working may be required on occasionTo deliver and/or ensure thatevidence-based therapeutic groups occur at each allocated time throughout theday and that daily one-to-one sessions with patients are conducted; ensuringthat these are planned collaboratively with the service users and the widermultidisciplinary teamTo ensure that NursingAssistants are adhering to policy, process and reasonable instruction,including in regard to protected time, documentation, observations and thedelivery of careTo provide clinical and linemanagement supervision to the nursing assistant workforce, ensuring this isprovided in line with policy.
This includes planned and ad-hoc supervision,including managerial supervision, live supervision and peer supervisionTo be the lead in physicalhealth interventions including NEWS2, phlebotomy and ECGs, both in ensuringpatients have received the required monitoring and ensuring the nursingassistant workforce is appropriately trained and skilled to deliver such interventionsTo be the lead nursingassistant on shift each day, in charge of the nursing assistant workforce,directing and supporting nursing assistants on shift and addressing mattersaccordingly To ensure audit andordering of medication, equipment, tools and resources as appropriate Person Specification Knowledge Desirable Evidenced interest in working in mental health.
Mental health First Aid training.
Evidence of an awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace.
Evidence of experience with the benefits and housing systems.
Experience Essential At least 4 years relevant mental health/health work experience.
Work experience within a Mental Health or Social Care environment within the last 12 months.
Supervisory experience.
Desirable Evidence of experience with the benefits and housing systems.
Additional Requirements Essential Evidence of ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Examples of positive attitude and person-centred, trauma-informed care.
Currently eligible to work in the UK.
Desirable Evidence of a commitment to user/carer involvement.
Access to own transport.
Qualifications Essential Relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent or a willingness to undertake this.
Care Certificate.
Literacy and numeracy skills to level 3 or above.
Evidence good understanding of the MHA and MCA.
NVQ assessor or willingness to complete this in the first 24 months of appointment.
Desirable Coaching qualification.
Leadership training.
IT or equivalent qualification to level 2.
