Job summary We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced and inspiring nurse leader to join our corporate safeguarding team and lead our Looked After Children service.
You will have overall responsibility and accountability for the management of nursing services within Looked After Children Services, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources and able to demonstrate service improvement and innovation.The Corporate Safeguarding Team is a busy service, but we provide a friendly and supportive environment in which to work.The post holder will be self motivated and experienced in assessing the needs of children and young people and will support all activities to ensure the organisation meets its statutory responsibilities with regard to Children Looked After.You will act actively lead the strategic and operational development and delivery of the service to meet both the present and future provision in line with the Health Board and National Objectives.The post holder will be autonomous in seeking assurances from and holding to account services and partners regarding their responsibilities as Corporate Parents.interviews to be held on 15/1/2025 Main duties of the job You will act as a lead specialist in your field with detailed knowledge and understanding of current issues and legislation relating to Looked After Children, Care Leavers and vulnerable children placed away from home, with freedom to take action, based on own interpretation of board clinical/professional policies, advising the organisation on how these should be interpreted.
You will use your experience of working as a health visitor or school health nurse and experience of working with children, young people and families, with a focus on child development, attachment, mental health,sexual health, Public Health, and children with disabilities.
You will have experience of planning and delivering individual specialist health promotion/intervention programmes and provide specialist health advice to multi agency care assessment and operational planning of services for Looked After Children (LAC) and Care Leavers working closely with Local Authority Social Services Departments.
The post holder will have the ability to function effectively autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary/ agency team and ability to prioritise and manage time and caseload will be able to manage change and service development and able to positively promote the agenda for Looked After able to respond flexibly to the demands of working in a complex and diverse environment is an essential requirement of the role.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Essential NMC Registration First degree Master's qualification Community specialist practitioner qualification Health Visitor, School Health Nurse Evidence of relevant continuing Professional Development.
Knowledge of stages of child development 0-18 years.
Knowledge of emotional and mental health development in infants, children and young people.
Knowledge of Wales Safeguarding procedures.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of current issues and legislation relating to Looked After Children, Care Leavers and vulnerable children placed away from home.
Knowledge and understanding the NMC code of professional practice Desirable Counselling skills Ability to use specialist child development tools Mental Health qualification Family planning qualification Knowledge of recognised parenting Programmes Webster Stratton, Stepping Stones Experience Essential Experience of working as a health visitor or school health nurse.
Significant experience of working with children, young people and families, with focus on child development, attachment, mental health, sexual health, Public Health, and children with disabilities.
Experience of planning and delivering individual specialist health promotion/intervention programmes.
Experience of working closely with children social services to address the needs of vulnerable children and families.
Experience of undertaking specialist holistic health assessments using recognised screening tools to establish the health needs of children and young people 0-18 years.
Experience of assessing the emotional health and well-being needs of children and young people Evidence of knowledge and commitment to clinical governance Desirable Experience of providing supervision to other health professionals.
Experience of managing or supervising staff.
Ability to use specialist child development tools Experience of engaging and working with vulnerable hard to reach groups.
