Lead Nurse Infection Prevention & Control

Job summary You will be responsible with other members of the Infection, Prevention & Control team in preventing and controlling infection primarily in an acute hospital setting, but also impacting on the wider healthcare community.This includes investigating, monitoring and raising awareness in the prevention, surveillance, investigation, management and control and control of healthcare associated infections.Responsible for providing day-to-day management of the nursing & administrative staff in the IP&C team.
To deputise for the assistant director as required.As a member of the Infection Control Team you will maintain effective and efficient communication networks with internal and external agencies.
Interacting with both clinical and non-clinical disciplines and other organisations responsible for healthcare provision.
Main duties of the job Provide clinical and managerial leadership and support to all nursing and clerical staffAct as a resource for support and guidance of own staff and at trust level, as requiredWork closely with own team, to promote good working relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary IP&C teamManage staff performance and development through a process of appraisal, which should include a cycle of constructive performance review and the establishment of a relevant personal development planMonitor and manage staff sickness and absenceFacilitate a system of clinical supervisionEnsure all staff have had the relevant training and statutory updating regarding mandatory training, COSHH, Health and Safety, Infection Control Policy, Resuscitation, Moving and Handling, Fire Lecture and Occupational HealthIdentify performance issues and initiate action in accordance with the Trust's Human Resources Procedures About us We are ESNEFT and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered with relevant professional organisation, either Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) or Health & Care Professional Council (HCPC) Evidence of postgraduate study to Masters level or professional knowledge acquired through specialist training and experience Continuing Professional Development Management or leadership qualification or equivalent experience Experience Essential Significant experience as an infection, prevention and control practitioner / specialist Managerial experience at Band 7 or above Experience in policy development, utilising relevant research & documentation to implement standards of care Previous experience of working on own initiative in a challenging and busy environment whilst meeting tight deadlines Experience of managing staff Experience of managing projects Desirable Evidence of leading and motivating teams Knowledge Essential Knowledge of audit and surveillance Ability to manage clinical and operational situations that involve staff from all levels within and outside the organisation Highly organised with the ability to lead, manage and motivate staff within sphere of responsibility
