Job summary The Nurse Specialist/TeamLeader will be the clinical expert and professional resource to theMulti-Professional team, patients and carers within their Speciality Service.The post holder will takeoverall responsibility to develop the specialist area of practice inpartnership with other members of the speciality team (General Manager, LeadClinician, Matron, Service Manager etc) will work collaboratively to developservices and quality of care delivered.The post holder will manage and lead the wholeservice team comprising of specialist nurses/advance nurse specialists andother team members and in addition lead the development and delivery of aprogramme of practice and professional development for staff within thespeciality.
This will be achievedthrough working in partnership with lead clinicians, managers and matrons.
Main duties of the job Managing/Co-ordinatingnurse led clinics.Working in outpatients clinicsActing as a resource for specialist knowledge and advicePatient communication, education, informationMDT meetings, liaising with GPs, district nursesProviding specialist, knowledge, skills and expertise in the practicearea, ward roundsInitiating, developing flexible and innovative approaches to meetpatient needs.Attend weekly 6:4:2 MDT Cath Lab meetings.Take an active role in the development of/ updating relevant guidelinesand documentation regarding the Cardiac Cath Lab.Keep up to date with the Trust access policy and ensure patients meetthe 18 week pathway targets.
Working with the management team to implementstrategies to tackle and reduce breaches.Liaise with the ward nursing and medical teams to ensure appropriatereferral and preparation of patients prior to their procedure.Be flexible to an ever changing environment with regards to Cardiac CathLab activity.

Manage and develop and influence the development of practice / services in the clinical area through the business planning process / service development and in conjunction with Matron, Managers, Lead Clinician and Assistant Chief Nurse.

Manage own and other resources effectively to budget ensuring quality service delivery within budgetary constraints seeking to reduce budgetary costs by ongoing review With team members undertake performance development reviews including reviewing the performance measures framework.

Lead the development of a patient focussed education and information giving strategy within the speciality.
Recognise, prevent and diffuse potential areas of conflict and take a key role in the management of the outcome.Clinical Governance / Quality Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
Develop and influence policy making and clinical guidelines internally and externally, necessary to support the specialist nursing service.
Continually monitor standards of care and lead the improvement of care through benchmarking, Nursing Charter Audits and Clinical Audit.
Support and facilitate research ensure evidence-based practice in the specialist area.
Disseminate good practice and knowledge by pursuing opportunities to present work at national conferences or via publication, encourage team members likewise.
Promote patient and public involvement activities in the specialist area leading to service improvement.
Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights.
Identify clinical issues and incidents within the Trust that reduce the quality of care within the specialist service brining any issues to the attention of the Matron.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the safety of patients at all times and promoting a safety culture through the effective management of risk.Area of work The post holder will be required to undertake training events at any site across the trustTo support maintaining clinical skills, the post holder will be required to work clinically on base wards in the division.
This is likely to be equivalent to a minimum of one session per week ie 4hrs in the CNS job plan.In periods of high activity when base wards need additional support the time commitment may increase.
At the time this will be risk assessed by the relevant Matron who will consider the impact on the individuals work load and the relevant service.
Staff Development, Training and Education The post holder will be required to undertake mandatory training and is responsible for keeping this training up to date The post holder will have an appraisal of performance each year and will be responsible for agreeing a development plan in line with the Trusts Framework, in agreement with their manager or immediate supervisor.
The development plan will be reviewed each year The Trust will provide assistance and agreed development to enable the post holder to achieve their objectives and standards in line with the development plan If the post holder feels he/she is not achieving their objective as agreed in the development plan they will bring it to the attention of their supervisor or manager at the earliest opportunityHealth and Safety Work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations at all time Report any incidents of breaches of Health and Safety and report any dangerous acts or omissions that are seen in the course of duty that compromise the Health and Safety of staff or patients using the Trust Health and Safety policy Comply with audit recommendations and risk assessment recommendations to make the workplace and work practice safer Assist when required to do so, in any risk assessment activity undertaken.NB.
