Lead Engineering Designer

I am currently looking to speak with an Designer who will take up the position of Lead Engineering Designer for our client based in Sunderland Salary £40,000 - £55,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + Pension + Hybrid Candidate Industry Background : Construction / Mining / Nuclear / Rail / Refinery / Chemical Company Background Client is a leading COMAH infrastructure business and operator of several critical UK energy sites, currently working on a number new projects such CCS / Hydrogen and alternative energy.
Key Responsibilities Use CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Edge, Inventor, Tekla) to create technical drawings, schematics, and documentation for sites, parts, and assemblies.
Develop overall site layouts and project schemes, regularly sharing updates with clients for review.
Convert notes, sketches, existing drawings, and verbal instructions into accurate designs aligned with engineering specifications.
Promote standardized designs, aiming for 80% reuse of existing designs and 20% new development.
Provide assistance to project engineers as needed to meet project requirements.
Lead client-facing activities, including design leadership and specification generation for minor studies.
Offer guidance to designers and detailers, ensuring adherence to best practices.
Oversee and validate work from internal design teams and 3rd party designers to ensure accuracy and quality.
Minimum Requirements Minimum of HNC/ HND in mechanical engineering with a recognised time served apprenticeship.. Proficient in 3D drawing packages, Solid Edge or Inventor, (Tekla considered).
Proficient in AutoCAD 2D drawing package.
