Job Description The starting salary for this role will be £20,319 This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

As a Materials Scientist Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role in enabling the scientific research of material in the field of Fusion through understanding how a suite of scientific equipment works by conducting a variety of research projects, off the job training in line with the apprenticeship, and by shadowing experienced responsible officer's.  You will also have the opportunity to work with active materials across the different types of scientific equipment such as FIB (Focused Ion Beam) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope).
Additional Responsibilities: Complete national academic qualification as defined by the apprenticeship training standard:  Materials science technologist (degree) / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education Attend designated training provider, develop and attain a good knowledge of technical skills.
Represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.
Qualifications 5 GCSES A*-C (9-4) including Maths and English, A minimum of A-Level Science, Mathematics and English Language passes to Grade C (level 4-9) Strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate an interest and aptitude for chosen area of work.
