We are currently recruiting for a Band 6 Junior Sister /Charge Nurse on Ward 15 at the Alexandra Hospital.
Ward 15 is a busy 15 bed acute medical ward.
Patientson our ward have complex needs and you will be liaising with the wider MDT tomeet the needs of our patients.
As a Sister/ Charge Nurse you will be expectedto support the management structure to provide a consistent high standard ofnursing practice with particular emphasis on quality and clinical standards.We are looking for a dedicated nurse with the skills to thrive within a fast paced environment with the ability to cope under pressure who is keen to pursue a leadership role.The ideal candidate will have excellent clinical, communication and organisational skills, with a willingness to develop managerial skills in order to be both a role model and mentor, supporting the wider nursing team.In turn we will offeryou opportunities to develop your skills as a leader.

Main duties of the job To lead the nursing team in the provision of high quality, research based, nursing care that is patient focussed.Provide support to the Ward Manager in the general management of staff including delivering appraisal reviews, managing the off duty, recruitment selection, and the supervision of junior members of staff.Utilise clinical audit systems to help monitor and improve standards of care throughout the division and to highlight areas of concern.To assist with the management of the ward effectively and efficiently within allocated resources.To foster a multidisciplinary approach to patient care in line with Clinical Governance and provide leadership on the Trusts values and behaviours.

Job description Job responsibilities Job Purpose: To act as team leader for clinical staff.To be responsible for clinical and non-clinical management of a ward area in the absence of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse.Key Duties:Operational Responsibilities Responsible for establishing and maintaining communication and relationship both internally and externally.
Establish and maintain effective communication and foster good working relationships with all multidisciplinary teams, both internal and external.
Provide and receive complex and / or sensitive information from patients and staff.
For example, breaking bad news to patients, giving complex information about procedures and their outcomes, dealing with performance issues, holding staff meetings.
Able to support and talk to distressed patients, visitors, and staff members.
Responsible for cascading information to ward staff and chairing staff meetings from which minutes are provided.
Make use of electronic internal / external mail and Internet systems as appropriate and necessary.
Deal effectively with comments, complaints, or incidents that affect staff and users of the ward in accordance with complaints, risk management, or human resources procedures.
Bring to the attention of the Senior Sister/Charge any factors which may adversely affect patient care or service provision.
Report all serious incidents to the appropriate Manager / Director within 24 hours; these include Never Events, serious falls, and grade 3 or 4 pressure ulcers.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered Nurse on sub part 1 or 2 of the professional register First degree or willingness to undertake Evidence of continuing education NMC recognised Mentorship qualification Specific speciality related qualification / equivalent experience Desirable Teaching and Assessing Qualification Higher Degree Experience Essential Can demonstrate a specific interest in area of work Experience of supervising staff Student Mentoring Recent qualification or extensive experience of working in an acute setting Desirable Proven knowledge base / experience in speciality Experience of appraising staff Knowledge & Skills Essential Good organisational / time management skills Ability to record and deal with accurate facts, figures and information Able to interpret and adhere to Trust and departmental policies protocols, procedures and guidelines Effective communicator both written and verbal Ability to problem solve Ability to prioritise work Flexible to change in demands of service Willing to learn new skills Ability to identify personal development needs.
Computer literate Ability to support unregistered staff / students Ability to identify and manage risk Desirable Competent to undertake venepuncture / cannulation Personal Qualities Essential Able to work in a team Ability to think clearly under pressure Ability to provide leadership and support to junior members of the team Able to deal with the emotional aspects of the post terminal illness, trauma, chronic / critical illness Able to deal with exposure to bereavement and challenging behaviour Enthusiastic & assertive Demonstrates attention to detail Motivated Able to work under own initiative within boundaries of role
