Job summary CARDIFF AND VALE UNIVERSITY LOCAL HEALTH BOARDJUNIOR CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW - SPINAL SURGERY (StRH Grade) Applications are invited for the above Spinal post vacant from 06August 2025 to work at both the University Hospital of Wales & Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales.
The post holder will work with nine dedicated Spinal Orthopaedic Consultants who are actively involved in all aspects of spinal surgery ranging from degenerative cervical and lumbar disease to tumour and scoliosis.
The Welsh Institute for Spinal Trauma & Surgery is a recognised AO Spine Reference Centre.
Main duties of the job The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in all aspects of spinal surgery and there is an active research programme in place including basic science laboratory facilities.
The ULHB is associated with Cardiff University and excellent postgraduate facilities are Post Holder will be expected to work at specialty Registrar level and will participate in the Spinal Fellow on call post is not educationally approved and will therefore not attract a National Training Number.

Job description Job responsibilities You will be able to find a full Job description and Person Specification attached within the supporting documents Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS Essential MRCS or equivalent Training in Radiation Protection or agreement to attend next available course Desirable ATLS Provider Academic Excellence, Prizes, distinctions etc MSc or PHD PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE Essential 12 months postgraduate experience in Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery (Core Trainee or equivalent) Desirable 6 months experience in spinal surgery orthopaedic or neurosurgery SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE , Essential Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues Up to date with current medical practices Ability to perform basic spinal surgical procedures under supervision Desirable Research interests in areas of specific expertise Exposure to basic spinal surgical procedures Attitude, Aptitudes, Essential Motivated and efficient Ability to work as part of a team Desirable Leadership Skills Special Interests Essential Evidence of presentation peer reviewed meetings reviewed meetings Quality Improvement/Audit project or equivalent Desirable Evidence of publication in peer review journal/s Evidence of completed Audit loop.
