Building a sustainable tomorrow BAM FM is recruiting a Janitor at East Renfrewshire Schools.
You will be based at one school , but contracted to be based at multiple sites through East Renfrewshire to cover janitorial holidays and sickness as required.
Under the instruction/guidance of the head janitor, you will provide janitorial services including porterage, maintenance, waste management & security services on school sites & premises.
This role is a 52 week a year position, 43 hours per week.
Shift patterns 40 hours Mon - Fri 07:00 – 16:00, 08:00 – 17:00, 13:00 – 22:00 and one Saturday in three 08:00 – 17:00.
You will also be expected to participate in the Sunday overtime rota from 12:00 – 17:00 to administer lets and occasional overtime during the week Pay: £13.42 Your mission Key responsibilities of this role include: • Lock/unlock school buildings and areas • Use FSIGO app on issued device to report and log tasks as per help desk protocols • Key holding on multi-site basis • Carry out weekly/monthly contractual & statutory checks • Participate in on call rota currently for one week in every 14 weeks.
• Undertake regular security checks and identify security risks • Monitor fire safety equipment and carry out and assist authority in carrying out fire drills • Operate and respond to alarm systems where appropriate • Liaise with contractors • Provide emergency access to school site Maintenance • Undertake minor/simple repairs e.g.
minor plumbing, changing lamps, unblocking drains, replacing finishing's, ironmongery etc.
• To organise and carry out various maintenance duties to ensure that the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises is satisfactory, as per specific schedule for the site • To organise and carry out minor decoration & improvement works • To monitor the M&E systems and report any issues • To participate in a preventative planned maintenance programme and for routine inspections of the buildings, fixtures, fittings, furniture, premises and grounds to assess for minor work or repairs requires to be carried out to maintain safe and satisfactory conditions • To carry out checks of heating plant and lighting systems • Undertake regular site inspections and identify and record repair and maintenance requirements • Identify defects and record repair and maintenance requirements • Undertake emergency cleaning tasks during specified times • Undertake cleaning duties such as graffiti removal & litter picking of entire site (external) • Monitor performance of contractors and carry out inductions prior to them gaining access to site • To assist in safety audits of the premises and contribute to relevant risk assessment activity Who are we looking for?

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience: • Janitorial/site-keeping or trade experience in a similar environment • Good numeracy/literacy/GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English • Have a good working knowledge of IT • Show initiative and work without direct supervision • Ability to relate well to children and adults • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and precautions • Knowledge of COSHH regulations • Willingness to participate in development and training opportunities • Demonstrate a flexible attitude and willingness to work as part of a team Who are we looking for?
