At the heart of our ambition is a commitment to improve how we communicate with residents from how we publish information so it is easy to find and understand to ensuring people are aware of key services and increasing levels of participation in Newham activities and events.
The Council s Marketing Directorate sets how we present ourselves to residents and position ourselves with partners winning the hearts and minds of local people with a clear Newham brand and narrative and motivating staff to become ambadors for the Council.
It leads our communications content research and partnerships work.
The istant Director of Communications is a senior leadership position holding responsibility for operational oversight of the Council s communications functions and working with the Chief Marketing Offices and istant Director of Strategy Brand and Impact ensuring that our communications activity reflects and supports Newham s brand and strategic proactive engagement priorities.
We wish to fundamentally reshape the public perception of Newham Council highlighting positive initiatives and innovative lifechanging delivery while addressing negative issues promptly and comprehensively.
This role has a pivotal part to play in this endeavour.
Key Duties (Sample): To provide professional expertise and advice to the Mayor Members the Chief Executive and senior officers on all areas of communications as required and to effectively support the overall strategy of the Council and the delivery of the Corporate Plan.
Develop and implement the Council s communications strategy to actively deliver the communication elements of the Council s integrated campaigns through leadership of the work programmes across all communications disciplines (including media relations social media internal communications and production and content).
Deliver effective results that achieve the goals of the integrated campaigns improve the reputation of the Council and ensures residents the Mayor all members staff and partners understand and fully engage with the Council s agenda.
Make certain research and evidence is used so the right message is delivered to the right people through the most appropriate channel.
Ensure through all communications channels that residents clearly hear the message they are at the heart of everything we do.
Embed consistency creativity innovation and value for money across all communications activity.
Ensure provision of a 24/7 crisis and emergency communication service for the Council and journalists.
Participate in the Councils emergency communication arrangements as an on call member of the response team.
Ensure media relations is a mixed and balanced approach across daytoday news management and proactively influencing and shaping the news agenda through campaigns features and profiles.
Enhance the professionalism and credibility of the Council s online presence.
Drive forward improvements on the web so content is user focused and the pages deliver good customer journeys.
Essential Experience and Qualifications: A successful track record of leading communication services within a politically complex organisation.
Direct experience of developing and delivering effective strategies in at least three of the following disciplines: media relations production and content social media or internal communications.
