Job summary To provide care under the guidance and supervision of a registered midwife.
Supporting women in their care during the antenatal and postnatal period.
To assist with administration and non-nursing duties at the discretion of the Ward Manager/Antenatal Clinic Manager/Team Leader.
Support women in feeding their babies using evidence-based information, in line with the Trust Infant Feeding Policy.
Main duties of the job The Rotational Maternity Support worker will primarily work alongside the Midwives and Breast feeding Specialists in supporting mothers with their chosen method of feeding, assisting women to establish breast feeding and provide advice to women who choose to bottle feed.
Rotating between community and the hospital base, the rotational Maternity support worker will be responsible for providing parent education on a daily basis, organising daily group demonstrations for mothers and their partners, as well as attending breast feeding drop in clinics within the community when required.
The role is varied including undertaking venepuncture, observations, colostrum collection, parent education, use of our electronic patient record, undertaking baby screening tests such as blood sugars, jaundice levels, newborn bloodspot screening and liaising with other health professionals.
The rotational Maternity support worker will assist in the provision of high quality care to women and their families under the direction and supervision of the Midwifery Team.
Demonstrate a range of skills to meet the needs of patients whilst promoting dignity, privacy and respect.
