Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow We are looking for an In-House Legal Counsel to join our team, based from any of our UK locations. This role reports to the Head of Legal responsible for Business Line International and will work with COWI's two experienced Senior Legal Counsel in the UK. You will also be part of the Business Line International legal team, which includes lawyers based in Canada, Denmark and the UK.
Your primary responsibilities will be contract review, negotiation and legal risk management, including:
General day-to-day legal assistance to the operational management and project managers in the UK and abroadStructuring, drafting and negotiating international service contracts and joint venture agreements, memoranda of understanding and teaming agreementsLegal advice related to contract and claims managementYou'll also provide:
Counsel in disputes and settlement negotiations, including instructing and supporting external counselSupport, train and liaise with COWI line managers and senior management on various legal subjects, including contracts, claims management etc.Company due diligence, general corporate housekeeping and advising on legal compliance mattersCounsel on mergers and acquisitionsImproving and updating standard contract templatesYour skills. You'll be an English law qualified solicitor with up to 5 years' post-qualified experience with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel, including having:
Obtained a law degree with a solid academic recordExtensive contractual review and negotiation experience, with experience of reviewing and negotiating NEC and bespoke forms of agreementsExperience in identifying, supervising and mitigating operational risk and opportunitiesHigh quality drafting skillsInternational experience would be preferred but is not essentialExtensive analytical skills, be business oriented and focused on providing solutions and resultsAttention to detail is part of your DNA, but you do not miss the big pictureA high level of responsibility and autonomyEnjoyment in being part of a cohesive specialist team providing advice and support in a large environment and on time critical projectsThe ability to communicate complex legal issues to internal and external stakeholders in a succinct mannerA focus on continuous professional developmentA place to work and so much more At COWI, we work together with our customers to shape a sustainable and liveable world.
