Torbay Council has entered into a new 10-year partnership with the Heritage Fund to support heritage within the bay and to deliver the aims of the Torbay Heritage Strategy which includes the updating of our existing conservation area appraisals, specifically those related to the Brixham Town, Old Paignton and Torquay Harbour Conservation Areas.
This role is a temporary contract for two years with a view to extension.
The successful candidate will assist with the delivery of high quality, robust and transparent decision making on conservation and landscape matters through the effective management of development management cases.
They will also provide advice, best practice and contribute to landscape matters relating to our Heritage at Risk Register, Conservation Area Appraisals and local lists.
Our new Heritage and Design Team work in collaboration with colleagues and external agencies including a local Heritage Forum This position is for a fixed term until 10th October 2026.

Skills Essential: Self-motivated, productive, dynamic and innovative.
Willingness to maintain and improve standards and performance through implementation of good practice and personal development.
Able to effectively project manage a number of projects at the same time.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
Knowledge Essential: Specialist knowledge of historic building conservation.
Working knowledge of all relevant planning and heritage legislation and national policies and guidance.
Understanding of wider national heritage issues and how they relate to the context of Torbay's economic growth aspirations.
Experience & Qualifications Essential: Experience of applying for, managing and reporting on heritage-related management and enhancement schemes.
A working knowledge of the archaeology, landscape history and the historic environment.
Degree or diploma in Town Planning, Landscape Architecture (CMLI), Archaeology, Building Conservation or a related discipline or significant relevant experience.
