Job summary Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Learning Disabilities Services - West Surrey and North East Hampshire Community Learning Disability Team.An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to come and be part of a forward thinking Community Learning Disability Team for 12 months to cover maternity leave.
Our learning disabilities services provide high quality care within assessment and treatment settings and within community teams.
Our Speech and Language Therapists are committed to promoting good communication in a proactive, ethical way.
They have a key role in supporting individuals, their support networks and multi-disciplinary colleagues in the implementation of the RCSLT five good communication standards.

To communicate effectively with a range of clinicians, managers, directors, associate directors, people who access services, carers/supporter/family members, stakeholders and agencies To provide supervision and mentoring to other speech and language therapist within the speech and language therapy service To deliver speech and language therapy student placements.

Job description Job responsibilities Key Responsibilities Leadership To plan and deliver a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service To research national best practice and enable services to benchmark practice against nationally recognised standards - in partnership with people who use services To contribute to the professional leadership and continued development of a team I service area.
To contribute to the skill development of more junior colleagues by offering line management and clinical supervision (both individual and group).
To help more junior staff prioritise and manage their caseloads appropriately.
To support the completion of appraisals/personal development plans with junior staff.
To lead in the supervision and Individual Performance Review/Appraisal of all Speech and Language Therapy staff.
To positively contribute to divisional developments in relation to Speech and Language Therapy practice.
To be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.
To contribute to appropriate staff recruitment and contribute to the wider strategic plans regarding Speech and Language Therapy recruitment.
To participate in new staff induction.
To lead in quality assurance activities as required.
To participate in co-producing services and resources with people who use services Clinical To carry out comprehensive speech and language therapy assessments and formulation, plan implement and evaluate delivery of speech and language therapy interventions and consultations to support people with specific needs.
To support the service to meet the accessible communication standards and make reasonable adjustments for individuals with speech, language and communication needs To develop systems to respond to speech and language therapy referrals in a timely and safe manner in line with national guidance To provide specialist advice to Speech & Language Therapy staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team and wider Trust through case discussion, formal consultation, clinical supervision and education.
To support the organisation through the provision of resources, training, and education in the area of speech and language therapy To ensure that the healthcare needs of people who use services are communicated to service commissioners and other healthcare providers.
To evaluate available research and develop and implement evidence-based practices across own service area on an on-going basis.
To take the lead for clinical governance and clinical audit in own service area; sets, monitors and reports on quality standards for clinical work, develops action plans to address areas of concern and ensures robust implementation.

Person Specification Interview Essential Speech and Language Therapy professional qualification Desirable Additional leadership/management study Interview Essential oA qualification in the assessment and management of dysphagia Desirable Relevant post qualification clinical experience working with the client group Interview Essential Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a speech and language therapist Certified graduate course or equivalent in-house training in clinical speciality areas.
