Job summary If you are wanting an opportunity to develop your leadership skills and work with an Early Years Complex Needs caseload then this is the post for you.
This job involves supporting the Speech and language Therapy leadership team to improve and develop the Speech and Language Therapy Department to deliver services within acute and community settings.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Service Lead and other clinical leads within the team in order to deliver Speech and language Therapy Services across Wakefield and Pontefract.The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of interpersonal and organisational skills, alongside a good sense of humour and be team focussed.
You would be joining a team with a good skill mix of specialist Therapists, assistants and admin staff and will maintain a clinical caseload in both communication and dysphagia.
Main duties of the job To be an experienced Speech and Language therapist to lead the Early Years Complex Needs Team clinically, managerially and professionally, delivering a service within the acute and community setting.To be responsible for own continued professional development and of the EYCN Team.
To facilitate a learning culture which includes audit and research to ensure high standards of care within the speciality teams.To support the Paediatric Community and Acute Service in ensuring professional standards are set, implemented, monitored and maintained.To be an active member of an enthusiastic management team, with specific responsibility for own area team and area of speciality.To have adequate time with other members of the team to ensure wellbeing.To be an active member of the appropriate Multi Disciplinary Teams About us We are an acute trust caring for over half a million people in Wakefield and Kirklees.

Job description Job responsibilities To provide clinical leadership to the EYCN Paediatric SLT Team.To provide clinical support to the MDA Pathway.To provide professional & clinical leadership to the whole Paediatric SLT team when delegated by the service lead.To support the electronic triage process of referrals into the Paediatric SLT service, speaking to referring agents as required.To undertake holistic, specific assessments in order to determine a child's Speech, language and communication needs, to plan, implement and evaluate care, determine goals and outcomes for children with complex social communication difficulties and other complex early years children as necessary.To be able to coordinate assessments of clients referred and accept or decline where appropriate giving reasons why.Initiate and promote excellence in clinical practice acting as a role model within every team you work within.To represent Paediatric SLT at strategic level as required.To be aware of & contribute to Risk Management.To lead on Clinical Governance tasks as required.To maintain a culture which recognises and works in partnership with clients and their carers, involving them in all decisions relating to their care delivery.To work with the Local Authority, private, third and voluntary services, ensuring effective timely communication between all agencies & to ensure all interventions and goal plans are complied with.To contribute to the dissemination of information between team members, using effective communication channels.To liaise effectively with other agencies, clients and their carers to ensure an efficient system of communication.
Be able to vary how information is communicated dependent on the recipients, this may include complex or sensitive information.
To attend & participate in regular team meetings.To participate in multi-agency forums, including external agencies, as delegated by the service lead.To undertake annual appraisals for members of the paediatric SLT team.To provide regular clinical supervision for members of the paediatric SLT team.To receive regular clinical supervision ensuring that practice is maintained at high levels and is evaluated utilising appropriate mechanisms.To be responsible for the continuing professional development of members of the EYCN SLT team.To be pro-active in self-development by participating in learning opportunities provided through staff training and supervision.Maintain and update skills and knowledge through life-long learning, especially within the sphere of childrens services.To demonstrate and maintain own knowledge and awareness of recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding the needs of vulnerable children.
Including participation in regular safeguarding supervision in line with trust policy.
To attend multi-agency safeguarding meetings as required.To undertake all mandatory training as required by the Trust.Demonstrate a proactive approach to team working and a commitment to team development by participating & leading on, working-groups as directed by the SLT service lead.To maintain standards in ongoing health information, both electronic and paper based, ensuring safe keeping and confidentiality, accurate record keeping of relevant data and profiling.
To input clinical information onto SystmOne as per Trust policy.To maintain confidentiality, privacy and dignity in relation to the patients and their treatment at all times.Concisely record in the clients notes all communications with relatives and other agencies to form a comprehensive record and enable consistent information to be given by members of the teamTo demonstrate and maintain own knowledge and awareness of recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding the needs of vulnerable children.To provide opportunities for student training as required.To adhere to infection prevention policies to reduce and minimise and participate in infection prevention audits.Maintain a tidy, clear working environment, being aware of potential health and safety hazards to self, other members of staff, clients and visitors.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential SLT Degree HCPC relevant registration Post-graduate accredited qualification in Dysphagia Desirable RCSLT membership Training in Neonate Dysphagia Experience Essential Evidence of Clinical leadership skills Extensive experience of work with pre-school children having complex needs Experience of multi-disciplinary working Experience of supporting children & families using AAC Use and analysis of a variety of SALT assessments Work within a variety of settings and with a variety of agencies Evidence of providing Clinical supervision Team management skills Desirable Experience of use of effective outcome measures Knowledge and Awareness Essential Post-graduate accredited qualification in dysphagia Ability to establish good working relationships Evidence of relevant ongoing professional and clinical development Understanding of current NHS Policy direction & service modernisation Personal Attributes Essential Promote equality & value diversity Professional attitude & positive role model Ability to work autonomously & as part of a team Other Essential Ability to travel across the district.
