Your New Role We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated HGV Technician to join our dynamic team in Area 7 based across East Midlands , located in one of our depots based in Leicester - Shepshed Motorway Compound (M1, Jct 23) (LE129DJ).
Collaborating closely with our client National Highways, Amey takes pride in delivering top-tier Maintenance and Response services, catering to the extensive network across the East Midlands.
The value of the contract is worth 50 million per annum.
Our responsibilities encompass all routine and cyclic maintenance operations on the trunk roads and motorways, covering an impressive estate that includes covering 1600km of motorway and dual carriageway trunk roads.
The standard hours of work are 45 hours per week.
You will be responsible for : The HGV Technician/Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of our fleet through comprehensive vehicle maintenance and repairs.
This role involves conducting routine vehicle maintenance to meet DVSA standards, diagnosing and resolving issues with various Heavy Goods Vehicles and equipment, regular four-weekly & six-weekly preventative maintenance checks, Defect rectification and Servicing.
Additionally, the technician must ensure all repairs are performed to high standards, guaranteeing compliance with highway safety regulations and preventing prohibition notices.
The position includes maintaining a fleet that consists of Winter Maintenance Gritters, Tipper Grabs, Traffic Management vehicles, sweepers, Gully Tankers and light commercial vehicles.
Utilising advanced diagnostic tools to accurately identify faults and execute effective repairs as and when defects are reported.
Dismantling and overhauling various components of vehicles to restore them to optimal working condition.
Completing the maintenance of diverse vehicles and plant equipment, ensuring all units operate efficiently.
Utilising tablets and devices to meticulously complete and maintain documentation, including job cards and preventative maintenance inspections.
Conducting testing of equipment and tools, with mechanics monitoring performance in the workshop.
Integrating health and safety protocols into daily practices while ensuring all areas are clean and safe.
Committing to ongoing professional development by upskilling with the latest technologies in the field.
Addressing and resolving nonconformance issues effectively.
Performing road tests on vehicles to confirm their safety and performance.
Assisting with roadside vehicle breakdowns, providing timely support to minimise downtime.
Adhering to health and safety policy procedures in all work practices.
We want to hear from you if you have: Experience in maintaining and repairing heavy goods vehicles, defect rectification and servicing.
Technical Competencies Proven experience in vehicle repairs, adhering to the highest safety and compliance standards, is essential for this role.
Awareness of COSHH regulations, Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness and environmental best practices.
City & Guilds, IRTEC, or NVQ certification (desirable).
Category C HGV license (desirable).
Manual handling training (desirable).
Commitment to personal development, including IOSH Working Safely and abrasive wheel training (desirable).
Available to carry out work at other depots as required.
Available to be on call, the HGV Technician/Fitter should be prepared for overtime on an ad hoc basis.
