Job summary Healthcare Assistant - Recruitment Day Department: Medicine Band 2/3 Hours: Up to per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working Milton Keynes University Hospital are holding a recruitment day on Saturday 25th of January 2025 for Healthcare Assistants wanting to work with #TeamMKUH.
We are seeking compassionate, caring and motivated individuals with a willingness to learn and join our friendly wards.
Experience is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
As of 1st of November 2024, it has been approved Trust-wide that 90% of our Healthcare Assistants are no longer to be paid as a Band 2, but are now to be paid at Band 3.
This is an excellent step forward for Milton Keynes University Hospital as we prove that we greatly appreciate and value the collaborative and patient-focused work from our Healthcare Assistants.
We are hiring for the Medicine and Surgical divisions.

Main duties of the job Good communication skills are required, and you should be able to work independently and as part of a wider team Additionally, you must be understanding of accurate documentation within the workplace and be caring towards patients, staff and their family members.
Candidates will be required to work a combination of duties including early, late, nights, weekdays and weekends.

Job description Job responsibilities Undertake/assist patients with personal care duties as needed including bathing, toileting, dressing and feeding.
Ensure privacy and dignity is maintained.
Assess patient condition and wellbeing through clinical observations and test results, looking for signs of agitation or distress, reporting any concerns with patient condition to a senior member of staff, in accordance with the departments escalation process.
Assist in the meeting of patients nutritional needs, ensuring patients who require assistance at mealtimes have a red tray.
Assist in skin and pressure area care.
Under the supervision of registered nurses ensure patients are helped to move position to prevent discomfort and/ pressure damage.
Undertake clinical duties and record patient observations as requested by a registered professional, this could include taking blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, basic wound dressing changes, undertaking venepuncture and removing cannulas, sutures and catheters.
To complete relevant documentation, including updating patient records with patient information such as fluid balance, nutrition, height and weight, as necessary.
To assist in the induction of new staff within the department, demonstrating duties to new starters.
Lead in setting an example to new starters to ensure safe and effective care.
Support with day-to-day supervision of Healthcare Assistants within the department.
