Job summary A vacancy has arisen within our Practice Nursing Team for a Health Care Assistant.
This is an interesting, varied and important role within our Practice and will include working at both our town centre Practice and our branch site in Norton Fitzwarren.We can offer up to full time hours and will consider job-share.
Main duties of the job This roleincludes undertaking a range of treatment room duties which includevenepuncture, ECG tests, urine testing, blood pressure monitoring,simple dressings, suture removal etc.
You will also be involved in the dailymonitoring of systems and processes to support infection control, patientsafety and regulatory requirements alongside other members of the nursing team.We can provide some specific training, but we arelooking for someone with some relevant experience.Good team fitis essential to us.
You will need to be personable, friendly, positive and havecan do nature.
About us We have ahighly experienced GP team.
We are a GPTraining Practice (we have just been assessed as excellent for this and weusually have a F2 doctor from the hospital for 4 months at a time on rotation.We also have student doctors in the practice.
Our Practice Nursing Teamincludes mentors, so we do take nursing students on placement.We have astrong Practice Nurse Team providing a full suite of chronic disease managementcare and the usual treatment room functions, plus vaccinations etc.We try to makethe best use of clinical IT and have a specialist team handling issues such asclinical coding, data quality, templates, protocols, screen pop-ups, searches,audits, recalls.
Examples of recentsuccesses have been the reduction in workflow items being sent to clinicians,including the diversion of prescription related items to our prescribing deskfunction.We are allsupported by our Patient Services Team (used to be called Receptionists) whohandle thousands of contacts per week.The Practice ispart of the Taunton Central Primary Care Network.

Anyinterpretation of clinical outcomes is the responsibility of nurses or GPs)ClericalSending Specimens to the hospital laboratoryUse of computer for recording and obtaininginformationCompletion of formsRestocking of trolleys, leaflets racks andsharps boxesMaintenance records of clinical equipmentOrdering of supplies and equipmentOther clerical duties as required Person Specification Qualifications Essential Attainment of 4 or more GCSE pass grades Good vocabulary Team Player Must have worked in a team situation.

IT literate knowledge of working in a Windows environment and with clinical databases.
Desirable GCSE (or equivalent) Maths & English Existing knowledge of medical terminology Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team environment, ideally in a medical setting.
Experienced in phlebotomy.
Familiar with EMIS Web clinical system Previous experience of venepuncture Experience Essential Good keyboard skills Accurate and methodical able to work to strict guidelines and protocols.
Good organisational skills and able to keep to work timetables.
Excellent communication skills articulate and clear (face to face and over the telephone) Highly motivated and able to work unsupervised.
Flexible able to cover for colleagues, sometimes at very short notice.
Self- reliant, helpful, friendly put patients at ease, caring and good sense of humour.
Responsive and adaptable to change.
Likely to stay in post for a minimum of 3 years Desirable Familiar the protection and security of personal data requirements Previous experience of working one to one with client / patient / customer Experience of managing a caseload for a clinic Lives within 8 miles of the surgery Outgoing disposition
